beech tree scales

i have a white waxy substance on my beech trees, i read that it leads to bark diease, if this is true will this kill my beech?

There are more than one scale that attack Beech. First it has to be identified as THE scale Cryptococcus fagisuga that vectors Nectria coccinea or Nectria galligena . They are the primary funguses that cause Beech Bark Disease. Once infected Beech can die, but it is not a forgone conclusion.
