I found a motor for my bucket and it has been sometime before
I have taken on a big project of replacing one. I got a great motor
today for 2000 6.6 to replace a bad one. I started striping the radiator
and all the exhaust etc. two hours am down to mounts and bellhousing
bolts! I have an alligator front clip no flip and hope to be able to bring
it up through with out removing clip. I would think it should be possible
just wonder if anyone has changed one recent to know? I am wondering
if it would be easier to pull tranny and all or support tranny and wiggle
the motor off? I am going to use the grapple truck to lift and put it in low
so it goes slow! If I remember right those tranny's can be a bitc? gettin
the input shaft in the clutch under the truck was why I thought it may be
better to pull the whole mess:confused:

I would call in a mobile mechanic. Even at $120./hr it is cheaper than the frustration.

Its out now it did not go great but it was not too bad messed
up my grille a little should have taken it off bwth. I can get a good
grille for twenty five same place I got the motor. It also fubared
the wiper motor fifteen bucks at least I should be good for many years
the motor seemed perfect that I bought! I wish I could have just paid
to have it installed but was told 3000 at least for installing and I have
one day out and hopefully one in or a 1.5 in. It really is no so much
the price as it is I need it now,not in a week or two!

Motor is back in and stabbed bolted to the tranny now
I will do all the other stuff should be going my next day
I get to work on it. I have to grind stumps tomorrow so
probably Friday! I can't wait to fire that puppy up and be
back in business! I will do the cosmetic mild damage at a
later date as it was minimal but it was a bear to install
you have to come in at an angle and have the rear almost
straight down then twist and raise the rear to get it in! Poor
design imo and I wish I had a flip front cap but I should
not have to do it again for many years.

Update it was indeed in Friday and worked out a few bugs
as some things are different between a bus and f 800 application.
It runs great the motor is going to last a good while no smoke until
you gas it hard to take of then just a little black smoke normal diesel.
The motor that finally went out smoked bad for three years , white
smoke and was weak the whole time. It made it longer than I figured
it would so maybe this one will go till I retire lol! I done two jobs with
it Monday and cleaned up today so; now I can start to make headway
on catching up my work:cheers:

Good for you Rope. Changed the engine in a '86 Chev, putting in the bell housing bolts was enough for me. I would never make it as a mechanic, to frustrating dealing with all that stuff.

It can be that I have done my own for thirty years but would rather
pay just can't do the waiting game! If I had two buckets maybe but
I climbed everything for two years worked a full time job as row foreman
and then weekends doing my climbing burnt me out on climbing. I would
rather take an elevator ride now!
