I've been using the flock filters on my 372. I can brush them off and even run water through them backwards to partially clean the filter material, but never "good as new". At $15 - $25 each, they get expensive and I like to keep them really clean. I notice that Baileys and others have reusable filters for Stihl saws with foam elements; I just don't seem to find them for Husky.

Does anybody have a good recommendation and source for an effective and easy-to-clean filter and it's source for a 372xp? 346xp? I'd be fine with having to wet the filter with foam oil like a dirt bike or use an ultra-fine poly mesh, if it really works.

Thanks

Rope & Lake,

Could you give a little more info. Where do you get these materials, and what is the method? I'd be a little concerned on the ultrasonic that you would displace some particles to the inside of the filter. On the electronic cleaner, do you spray from the inside of the filter out? Rinse?

Thanks again.

methinx you're being overly concerned. I use 372's professionally, and the filters stay very clean, compared to other saws. We blow them out carefully daily...and I wash them in soap and water periodically. They last a long time. No need for them to look perfect. Try the Purple Clean that Andy suggested, it's great stuff.

Thanks Rb. It's easy to go off the deep end trying to take care of these things. Thanks for the calibration session. I'll take your advice!

I have ordered a "high" filter setup for my 372xpg, and I did order the filter that wasn't felt I hope it's the mesh type thats on the "low" filter !!
I will show pics when I get the parts !!

The easiest to clean are OEM nylon mesh filter available for 372 and 346.I use brake cleaner spray to clean them, works great.

second that, i myself just spray them clean with compressed air...

Aye, but the mesh cleaners don't filter as well. They are easier to clean, though.

Seem to do fine work on my saw, no fine dust/debris inside filter.... might be different thing if you cut plenty of rotten/dead trees with dull chain...

They are standard on both Stihl and Husky over here, so I suppose that they must clean the air well enough for anything resembling "normal" conditions (here, not in a US desert).

They are usually availiable with different mesh desities for sommer vs. winter etc.

Dishwasher is convenient for cleaning them, when sticky dirt has buildt up.

The best filter for the 372 is the on from the 2171 Jonsered. Which is also the same as the one on the 362/365. The mesh filters are available in 2 different micron ratings. (80 and 40 I think). And there is also a flock version of this "flat" filter.

They are all easier to clean, go longer between cleanings, and are cheaper to replace than the tall filter.

Another note: The 372XPG always came with the flat style filter, as does the new 575XPG.

That is the same filters we have here, for both the 372xp and the xpg.

The high-top filter cover and high filter are just options here, not standard issue.

SC vs. SG

Does anyone know how "Purple Cleaner" compares with the likes of "Simple Green"(which I can source here in N.Z.)?

For me, Purple Stuff (Super Clean, Purple Power, etc) is more agressive than Simple Green. I used to use Purple Stuff to clean motorcycles, but I found that it corroded aluminum very easily, so I quit using it. I have used Simple Green since then and I have been really happy with it. If power is what you need then Purple Stuff is the winner. I used to have access to citrus based industrial cleaners, and to me they were the best. I need to get some more of that stuff...

Hope this helps.

I have a 372xp with HD filter on it and was wondering, if they are so bad why they even offer them. My filter really doesnt get that dirty compared to my older Stihl like a MS360Pro. I usually just take my air compressor witha blow nozzle and blow them all out the same. Mine is coming back from Dave Neiger now, so I am one happy camper or should I say sawer!

No-one said they were bad, just a bit harder to get clean then the mesh type.

The air injection works really well on the 372xp also, as you said.......:)
