I would say to the customer to make sure they are comparing apples to apples. Some guys will take a tree down and leave no evidence. Another firm, for a lower price, may leave a huge stumps, logs, etc. Tree is down, yes, but there is another mess. I see that quite a bit. Contractor goes in, doesn't have the know how or right tools for the job and the customer is left with half of what you said you could do for a few dollars more. There is no accounting for how folks decide. Everyone is different. I like the idea of prompt replies and ontime inspections. It's a numbers game. The more bids you give, the more you will bring in (if you have that kind of time). Try to prescreen via the telephone. If the folks develop a relationship with you before you get there, you are already getting in the door so to speak.
