sounds like by the foot if they grade it? seems odd to me, we sell SYP by MBF converted from weight, no grade, same price for the whole tree. there are size slots.

Goes by grade here on Maine for all saw logs, international rule. Select pine pays 600, #1 400, #2 350 and #3 300 per thousand.

Some truck drivers get paid a straight price on select,1,2,3 logs but only if they deliver a certain amount. Pallet pine pays junk here..,. Only wood on complete straight price is spruce and fir here in Maine ( unless really really big nice clear spruce)

for white pine here, it's going for 170.00 a cord in 16.25' lengths with a 10" in side top end. one of the nicer pine's(34") I have been able to salvage from our july storm which were wind thrown. 4 lengths to this tree with an 10'/10" and an 8'/6" top....

Our white pine logs are sold scale. Graded on knot size and spacing. Its pretty much worthless with the prices at .30 or .40 cents. We have to pulp it if it's shows red dot like the one in the OP's pic

Is the storm cleanup done pretty much?

still doing some wet land cleanup, but need to wait till freeze up to finish a couple of lowland swale areas with ash and spruce... one more cream job before the end of the year to pad the winters nest egg till firewood starts to roll? the storm has dealt a blow to the firewood market in the green wood delivery for now! I am in the black for dry wood for them that forget that green wood, even free don't burn too well!!! $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

? maybe I should mention that I only do 10 acres or less with minimal soil compaction with farmer/logger equipment. as most of the area here are owned by tree huggers from the "twin chitties" not wanting any damage to their forested lands( scraped pivot tree's an such) which makes for a tough row to hoe!

Red dot? The pitchy heart?
Sorry meant red rot. The center looks soft and the reddish look to the right of the heart is red rot. He can correct me if I'm wrong.

Apparently if present it will be dispersed randomly through the log, so its difficult to saw out at the mill. Anyway. If either end of a log shows it, we usually have to pulp it.

Got it. Here in Collyfornia we have brown cubicle rot, called heart rot, in redwoods. It worms its way through the entire length of a tree generally starting at the roots and makes most of the wood unusable for anything structural, though some like it for its look for siding etc. If one tree has heart rot then most trees nearby will have it especially if the is any fire damage to the other trees. It is a slow process so I am hoping I am not a vector.
