I'm looking at buying a mill and making my own lumber. I've run across a big mill timberjig new in the box for $150. Should I go ahead and buy it, or order the granberg mini mill? I've done a little research and it appears that the big mill is upgradeable, but an alaskan appears to be cheaper overall and everyone here appears to have a mini mill as well.

I have a Timberjig and an Alaskan MK III. I have had the Alaskan for 6 years or so, and have milled a lot with it. The Timberjig I got on a killer sale that baileys had going for $99 brand new. They were listed on sale for $119 NIB but I don't know if they have ended that deal or not. The normal list new is $199. $150 is not a bad deal, IMO. To like the big mill upgrade option for the Timberjig. One of these days I will upgrade mine, but for now, I really like it especially for doing smaller logs and dimensional lumber.
