Today me and my uncle went down into the woods to get firewood, he told me that the loggers had worked an area up around the road and that we could take the tops. When we got down in there i was amazed, they had left whole Oak logs lying next to the road, said we could have what we wanted. we cut up all the oak and maple logs and finished off the tops in the woods, we cut about a half cord for 1 truckload, we are planning to go back again tomorrow, if i do ill take some pictures. Its really strange how the loggers and the firewood guy didnt take the logs. good thing is its all oak! and free, cant beat that. :chainsaw:

i know this thread is worthless without pics, but i didnt have a camera handy and didnt think about it this morning.

Maybe the loggers just got the latest prices on the logs and realized they'd be losing money to have them hauled to the mill!

Were they good and straight, the bottom logs or the secondary logs? Sometimes if the price is low, they will only take top grade stuff. Like someone else said the other is worth hauling.

dosent make sense there are 2 loggers who i know both heat with wood, and on top of that there is a third cutter in there who makes his living selling firewood, it wouldent be worth it for him to leave all the logs around and then tell us we could take them for free. its really strange. i guess some of it came from a guy who they recently fired knocking down trees with the skidder and making a big mess, i guess no one went after them. The good thing is we are only about a half mile down in, and the road in is about a mile or longer with wood laying right next to it. most of its tops but they are about 6" or so. there are a few maple logs laying around and some cedar. cedar might make some good fence posts but my uncle is only interested i the firewood, might take him a bit to be interested in going back for the cedar. Ill try to take some pics but he said he didnt think he was going to go out and do much if it was really nasty weather, looks like we might get some snow tomorrow....ugh, im usually happy to see snow to go skiing, but not when it interferes!:dizzy:
oh well.:greenchainsaw:
