I am looking into buying a Big Shot in order to better help me set lines from the ground especially for trimming situations.

How many of you use the Big Shot and find it valuable? Or not valuable? I see Sherill has them for 109$ with two 4' poles. Up till now I have been using the underhand throw but that is hard when there are lots of limbs on the tree.

Get it! I talked Butch into getting one (or at least partly talked him into it), I have had mine for a little over a year now (on my second one now, wore the first rubbers out). I have set lines up to 110' with it, and it is invaluable when setting lines for a removable block (weave the line through seveal crotches to spread the load) when doing target limb removals.

Get it, you wont be sorry!

Ill agree with LJ- the big shot is money well spent. I use mine daily and rarely do i need to relaunch... I feel it is very productive to get that line set where you want it the first time.

Thanks guys that was the kind of info I was looking for. I figured that's what the people would say but I had to see first hand.

Thanks again guys, I am going to purchase one.

Hmmmmmm I tried Hand throwing a Line today. LOL Ive been using the bigshot Too long after 4 attempts i walked to the Truck and retrieved the bigshot Make the shot first time.
I dont know if i could get along without it now!

Get it, but go to a Vermeer store so you can size it for your highth, especially if you are either above or below normal. I use 9 foot of pole, and Kenny only needs 6.

I've started using just a 4 ft and bracing it off my chest, and am getting better acuracy.

The trigger release is worth the cost too.

Has anyone had the bag not release from the holder and then have it come back and hit you? I couldn't figure out why it happened but it sure hurt.

Every once in a while the bag will get stuck in the holder, but I have never been hit with one.

The only time I have been hit with a bag was a 10oz bag i threw while in the tree to set a line and it got caught up and hit my in my throat by my collarbone. Didnt hurt too bad, weird kinda hurt.

I'm thinking of replacing my driver with a BS, it will help a lot.

I need a big shot. Coming from the spiking world I am no good with a shot pouch. I want to be proficient in the old fashioned way first, then by a big shot, and then forget everything I learned.

I did it the opposite way. I started with a BS, then learned how to hand throw (and pretty well I would guess), and I still use the BS on high throws (above 75') or when the throw is straight up next to the trunk and I cant arch it over.

BS is worth every penny.

owch!

i once tried to catch a throwbag when i was just begining in the comercial/residential tree service industry. hadn't ever seen one before. company owner and his lead climber got this thing out and got ready to set it, not bothering to tell me what was what. so the first try was a mis-cue. the thing went about 60'-70' straight up in the air. barely touched the tree. it was coming back down, right @ us. the other guys stepped out of the way of course, probly expecting i would do the same.however being the eager cub that i was, my immediate reaction to this fascinating new object was to impress my employer and mentor by demonstrating my catlike hand-eye coordination and catch the thing (12oz. bag). @ the last moment they realized my intentions and yelled...DONT. it was to late. needless to say i was shocked. it was like catching a linedrive foul ball w/out a mitt.
