A friend has some black pines to fell all good and straight and not far from the road.
I've never milled black pine though, so I've been wondering if it is worth milling to dimensional lumber for building barns and boards for siding and a deck for my cabin.
The site won't be accessible before a month or so due to the snow storms we've had in the area, perhaps late march/april they'll be too sappy to be felled and milled :msp_confused:

Anyone knows anything about black pine ? I know trees for milling should be felled in winter when sap is down, but would like to hear some expert's advice about this, as I guess I won't be able to start the job before a month or so......

Thank you mtngun, it is rather common in Europe, but Austrian Spruce is what is mainly used in construction, that's why I asked.
What is your experience with best time of the year for felling ? Will that be ok in a month or so ?

As soon as possible. Think maple syrup. When the sap starts running it's to late.
