We've just got a handful of Shindaiwa handheld blowers. We try and rake/broom as much else up as possible. Winter cleanups suck, but during the summer the blower is usually relegated to blowing away that little pile of dust left behind you cant get pushed into a shovel with the broom. :)

Its nice to get praised for the cleanup along with everything else!

Did you just say you used brooms? Like in sweeping? Really? Brooms?

I read this late in the game, but here is my two bits worth:

Use them both. At the same time. Until you try it, you just don't know how much more effective two are than the biggest backpack blower going.

I have a hard time making my [hourly] employees use two blowers at once; in fact, they practically refuse to use a heavy backpack blower. It turns out that is a good way to tell if a man is doing his best on the job: does he grab the backpack, the handheld, or BOTH blowers ?

Myself, I hate blowers, and I hate walking around chasing little piles of nothing all over a big paved area. I will always grab two blowers, and make somebody use a shovel/rake in front of me to take care of the bigger piles.

I prefer a handheld blower my self, but then again I rarely do that part of the clean-up. It seems a pain for me to get that big heavy thing on my back. We have a groundmans who is a blower expert. He could do the whole clean up with a blower if we let him.(and never pick nothing up) Several of the Citys we work in have ban the use of blowers because of dust.(they say) But lots of the lawnmower guys use electric ones and no body seems to care. Use a gas one and they are calling the cops and you'll get a ticket and fine. We generally charge 10% more for those Citys if there is a lot of clean up.

There is a lot to be said for living in the country..

If they ban them in the city I think 10% more is more than reasonable.
Whats next? Banning of chainsaws and powersaws? LOL
What about lawnmowers? Oh wait, thats right... everyone with a 4 foot strip of grass uses one, not everyone uses blowers.. kind of a biased law if you ask me.

Cities suck. :dizzy:

Anything that is more than a 10 min job with a handheld calls for a BR600 or something comparable. Even the best handhelds will cramp your hand after about 15 min, and some are so weak you're better off with a rake. The BR600 literally blows the competition away.
