So I bought this great 15 inch '98 250 XP Brush Bandit Chipper last year for $12,500 and put $4000.00 into it so far (blown clutch, turbo, oil sending unit, blades, anvil, wires, etc etc.). So now I figure I have all the bugs worked out and it is just shredding the debri on a daily basis when the thing throws the rod through the crankcase(whoops). It had oil, water, grease, so must have been an internal problem.
It is a Cummins 4 cyl, 3.9 L , model 4BT3.9-P, and I'm looking at an reconditioned engine for $7000.00 plus labor :censored: that can be ready in (gulp) 3 weeks. Thats somewhere in the amount of $7000 over my budget? (not to mention about 3 weeks to late)

Anybody have any ideas on finding a decent engine for about half the price, or ideas on anyone willing to buy it with a blown engine? I know, good luck.
But I thought I'd check anyway. By the way, my tree service is located in Seattle.
Thanks, rringe

Well if you were'nt in Seattle i'd be all over that like stink on sh!t. Grab an equipment trader, there's always adds in there for engine rebuild shops, or use Google, i'm sure you can find one. Don't be suprised if they screw you on the core because of the hole.

Thanks, guys. Actually Gary is my mechanic too (lucky to have, great guy) and he's the one that found the $7000 engine. Lonnie has been out of town on business, I'm hoping he will have good new when he gets back. I will check eq. trader, good idea, thanks.

Have you talked directly to Cummins? We just replace the same engine, minus the turbo in a 97' morbark 13 , it was done in a week and a the price including labor was 7 and some change. This was done in NC by cummins mid-atlantic in greensboro.....if that helps.

Last winter I rebuilt a JD for my 200 +, it was spitting alot of oil. Had a broken ring in it. It then ran for 20 min. balancing shaft bushing went bye-bye. My friend helped me do the job so it was about 2500.00. everyone I talked to wanted to sell me a re-man for 6200.00. good luck w/ yours. Once you get it all together you'll be set.
