My bucket has kicked it, dern it, started knocking and to make matters
worse it has that Brazilian pos 6.6 in it! I am looking at another truck I
have too much work to climb it all:cry: I called a reputable mechanic
today to see costs and 12000 for a rebuild I told him that is more than
I gave for the truck! I knew the motor was weak when I bought it so
can't complain and I have made use of it near four years! If I get the
forestry package truck I am looking at I will find a good used 7.8 to
put in the other truck and sell it or keep for a spare. I am going to have
to use it knocking for a few jobs to get them off my back and then
bite the friggin bullet. Being a tree service stinks sometimes but it
is what I do:Eye:

Last place I worked for had a fleet of dumptrucks and several L8000 had them. Ford made such a big deal when they were released. I was never impressed.I helped a guy rebuild one once didnt think it was that much but I wasnt footin the bill.

They can't be inframed  No liners so ya got to strip it
down to bare block etc. They are not too great in power and I
feel I may be better served getting in something a little newer!
I can prolly hit the auctions and get a decent motor to make the
bucket a salable asset! The boom needs work as well mainly control
lines and nick nacks I have not had time for! I could sell as is but
prolly would be better off selling it ready to work at least.

Can the 7.8 be inframed? Isn't that about the same motor as a 6.6?

Yep same deal no liners Brazilian made! I have found dropins for 7800.00 rebuilt and I imagine shipping, well I won't even go there. I just figured I may be better to get a newer truck
and boom after running this one till she quits. It still runs
good just knocks and has some blow by, just hard to tell
which direction to take, business was just starting to stay
busy and then this! Sometimes a man wonders, is it all
worth it, trying to compete with this stuff but it all seems
to come back to, it is what I do best.

The mechanic I helped stripped it down in the chassis.Tilt hood taken off made it easy. Also we didnt have a big enough hoist to pick it.We sent all components out to machine shop and assembled it ourselves. I am guessing its in a F800 with no tilt hood. That would make it a big pain to work on.:)

I can already see you towing it from job to job with the mack truck.

Just kidding,that really sucks.

 :hmm3grin2orange:   Hmmmmmmm :monkey:
Is all I can say. I am looking toward a good used one and yes it's
a figgin no tilt prolly be easier to pull my own teeth! I figure I can
pick it with the grapple after taking the radiator out. I will probably
pull motor tranny and all as it is easier as an assembly imo!
