I picked up a new National Audobon Society book today. It has a "pleather" cover and is about 1000 pages long. It breaks down Eastern trees by Leaves, color of flowers, fall foliage colors, species, and then gives a habitat, region, and VERY good descripotion in black and white in the last 600 pages. The front pages have Awesome color photos of the leaves and bark.
It also gives the number of needles in a bundle on pine trees on the color photo pages!
This book is GREAT!

I got the western and eastern region books at Hasting's for 20 each. The only problem with these books is that they will be hard to use this winter.
