All you need is a long cable and a 4x4 pu or a tractor... Even logs cut into 6' lengths, (or shorter) make great lumber!

I took this picture when I was looking at the property . This is the back area where I plan on building the house. Something small thinking log home under 1600 square ft no basement with a large detached barn garage for my cars and other toys. Second is of early spring , looks like a bear was after some grubs or just clawing . Sign is about 4 ft off the ground

I have a family member who builds log homes. If you haven't identified a builder I can put you in touch. He's done places all around the country.

I'll keep it in mind

I have been looking into kits . Used to love Lincoln logs when I was a kid . This is a kit from a company in Saugerties NY . The garage may or not stay depending if my girl wants her car in the garage. I need at least a 5 car with a work area. I also already have a 4 post lift in my garage where I am now will be moving it into the new place . Want a ranch, all my life I have had two story homes , tired of stairs

I can smell good timber way back in them there hills.

I own 12 + the far hills are all state land . Surrounded on two sides by State land, buddy owns 22 behind me and then all state behind him
You can get a lot of good timber off 12 acres without harming the integrity of the woodlot. Is there any evidence of a previous commercial cut on your parcel?

No evidence of commercial cutting. I have been pulling out some large oak that have been down since sandy from the property . The friend who turned me on to the property owns behind me and doesn't cut he has a pellet stove . I have permission to cut on his too, so its 34 acres in total

That's awesome!

May I suggest that you do your homework before you do anything but a general cleaning of blow downs and standing dead. If you take 4 ripe pumpkins per acre thats about 120 trees or 30,000 board ft. If the trees average 250 ft of veneer and sawlogs, assuming each tree is at least 16" dbh. Firewood goes in the stove, sawlogs go to the mill and veneer goes to the veneer mill. I'm just trying to put a bug in your ear how it should be done for max$ and still have a sustainable woodlot.

It is entirely possible that if all the logs are high grade saw or mill logs, selling them could make you enough to pay for all the firewood you would need cut, split, and delivered to your door!

That's a major river around here.

LOL . The water comes out the the mountain behind where I plan on building. Had it tested prior to buying the water is perfect drinking water . So the I will be doing a pond and cistern. Water runs 24/7 all year. Have the BOH approval for the septic . So it will be a go in a year or two.
