I bought a 40' chain roll and found out that it didn't have any master links included for making new chains. The chain roll is a 1/2" pitch and .063" gauge roll. So now I'm on the hunt for a set of master links to this roll.

Anyone who sits on this vintage saw chain parts is welcome to reply!

I have a few pieces to fit Oregon 31, Oregon 41, and several McCulloch 503 kit in 1/2" pitch. I also have a few McCulloch P8 and SL8 parts. I don't recognize the "40" designation.

It may be necessary to take one link apart and measure the rivet diameter, bushing diameter, and center distance between the rivets to see if I have anything that would match.

I'll check when I get home. I'll keep you updated.

For 1/2" pitch, this Oregon chain seems to be called "10C" or "10L".

Yes those are a few of the ones I have. I am not following your math on the number of loops though🤔 if you have a 28 inch bar you will only get 7 to 8 chains from 40 feet
Bingo. I knew I was off there... Google Gemini told me that after I must've given it some weird numbers...

Do any of you @heimannm or @Bill G have a repair kit for a 1/2" .063" chain? This is what the roll looks like...

40' will have something less than 480 drive links. A 28" chain will require around 66-68DL (depending on the width of the bar, the spacing at the tail, etc.) so you will end up with maybe 6 or 7 loops.

Measuring the I.D. of a small hole with a caliper is not exact, but gets us pretty close. I'm showing 0.248 compared to your 0.246.

The bushings on the presets actually measure 0.250"

Or course, they fit in the holes.

The rivets are 0.150" diameter

Outside of the rivets is 0.655", subtract on rivet diameter to achieve 0.505" center distance.

The spacing on the drive links is just a bit smaller and of course the presets to not fit, but they would never be installed on a driver anyway.

They only fit this way.
