Was on my way home and spotted a yard sale sign, stopped and picked up these two for $20 The husky is a 1984 and seems to have good compression and the homelite XL12 pulled over slow. What to do with all these saws:laugh:

I just sold one of my Husky 61s on ebay it brought over 150 dollars so I would say you did real well.... I wish I had time to go to yard sales.....

I was looking for some parts for some carb bolts for a 61 the other day and I stopped in a local husky shop. He couldn't find the parts in his IPL so he said lets go look in back to see if we by chance have a part saw laying around. We ran in the back and sure enough there was a complete 61 laying back there with a good p&c. He said are you sure you just don't want to buy the whole thing. I said yeah possibly "how much?". He said how does $10 sound. I thought i had gotten a hell of a deal on it. I guess $10 must be the going rate ; ). I don't normally mess with huskies too much, but I put a new aftermarket 48mm p&c on it and its not a bad saw.

Well, the white top Husky 61 (Rancher/Practica) is a cheap collectors item, but not a very good saw by todays standards - power to weight simply doesn't cut it.......:biggrinbounce2:

The 162se and Jreds 630 were a much better versions of the same basic saw....

These will be next winters play/fix with sort of saws. I am in the middle of doing my whole house in hardwood. Now have 3 saws and a brush cutter to get running, if they will run. May do a compression check on the 61, it seems to have a lot but the guage will tell the truth. The 61 is missing all the chain brake stuff, it's been around but may make a good saw to pack on the ATV.

I'm not too knowledgeable on husky at all. The saw that i was initially rebuilding (the one I put the new p&c on) was a black top. I haven't even checked what model year it is or researched the differences between the whitetop and the blacktops. Comming from stihl land that intake block setup is something a tad different then i'm used to. I've only put together about a 1/2 dozen or so huskies and the last one i had, i sold to a guy out in the UK.

If I'm not mistaken, a 266 piston and jug on a 61 will make it a whole new saw. On the other hand a 266 jug and piston on a 266 bottom end is even better. I did the conversion on my 162 (hey, I had the parts) and it is a real boomer! The 61 may not be fast, but it is a reliable and durable firewood saw.

A small update. I had a little spare time and checked the compression on the 61 and it came in at 145lbs . Found why they guy probably sold it, the shaft on the throttle trigger is broken and the saw would either idle or be at full throttle instantly. I have never seen a air filter so dirty, the piston and cylinder look ok thru the plug hole for what you can see thru it.

white top

I hope he gets the white top Husky running I think he will be very pleased with it, I've run several different variations of the model 61 and they all were awesome saws including the ones with the white tops... :)

its amazing what kind og saws you can find at yard sales flea markets etc for a resonable price. i would have bought those saws too. never know you could get them running and use them forever or sell some parts off them and make a little money.

61

Clean that husky 61 up, and it will be a great saw. I think you can still get throttle/trigger assemblies off bailey's if you call them. ;) Great deal too! :D

According to the "evidence" I have seen on CSCC, there wasn't much power differense between th 162se and the 266se, but both were far ahead of the white top 61.......:greenchainsaw:

The 268se/xp left all those far behind - also according to the same site.

However, there are people that have stated that there is little or no real differense between the 266 and 268xps - so I am not sure what the truth is........

Thanks for all the info guys it's appreciated. I dumped out the putrid gas that was in it and put some fresh in, she fired right second pull, runs great, very noisey as the muffler screen etc is missing off the side of the muffler. Oiler work good. The bar is the worst I have ever seen and it has ruined the chain. I can't find the IPL link on the Husky site, anyone have a link??
Thanks again.

I found the link on their international site, lots there. Ultra I haven't recieved the email yet will check again after work. The Homelite has 130lbs compression and is missing its fuel line, someone must have had plans for it as they took the time to plug off the old fittings. The saw did fire with a bit of fuel in the carb throat.
