No....this kind of bow....

Thought I would post some pics of my Mac4300 w/bow guide. As most can tell this is a ProMac700 with different stickers.

Quite a few ask about a bow and its use, so I thought I would post a video showing how the bow guide is used to buck a log, only in this case it is a cant in my front yard. Notice the spur is placed against the wood, then the bar is fed in. Guards on the upper and lower portion of the bar, plus a little common sense, make this a safe tool to use. Not for felling, but for bucking it can be a real back saver. Notice I never have to bend over, even though the wood is only a foot off of the ground.

Enjoy!!!

Strange lookin critter. But that one sure is perty. I guess I need to hunt down a bow bar. Do most of the bow bars use standard chain(like stihl, oregon, windsor, etc)

When you are cutting like that are you putting much force on the saw or does it self feed with the weight of the saw and the sharp chain?

Standard chain, you just have to match the guage, but you can run .325, 3/8, and .404 all on the same bar.

Almost no force being applied. The chain is very sharp, and in the first cut you can hear the saw load up when the saw starts to feed itself. I had to apply a small amount of pull to get the revs back where they should be.

Very nice saw, John. !:agree2:

thanks for posting that vid.

btw, I picked up a like new PM800 this week but the carb (Zama C2) is giving me fits. I won't idle correctly untill I turn the L screw out for 2 turns and still starves for fuel...

Way back when the manufacturers would sell you a saw set up with a bow. Insurance companies put an end to that and now you have to build the combo yourself. Most saws can be set up with a bow guide fairly easily.

thanks alot for the good info guys. i gotta check that out. in the right application that would be kick ass!!

Nice looking saw.Is it restored or just in good condition?

The saw came out of Texas via eBay. Very well cared for and with low hours. It still managed to lose the ignition module (I hear they are good for it) very soon after I got it. I think the PM700 is one of the best looking saws ever made, and the MAC4300 is a rare example of it. I feel fortunate to own such a nice saw. The bow guide was NOS out of a local saw shop. Thanks for asking!
