Nothing like a pile of Bud Heavies to get the thinking cap on....

If you go to a tile or granit counter top place and ask them for some samples, you might be able to get a nice flat plat piece of granite. I got one for free...1'x1'.

Ive found that my digital cameras work well in real light and not great under flourecents and the new low energy bulbs are worse.

Bowtie,
Thats' gonna take some serious sanding.:dizzy:

The 026 has a domed piston and narrow squish band. When I check for squish clearance, I put grease on the piston crown, and short, small diameter pieces of solder at 12-3-6-9. With this method I know that I'm measuring the correct locations, but requires having the cylinder off. The grease holds the solder in place while installing and removing the cylinder.

Instead of sanding the base off the cylinder, and raising the ports, I would have cut a new, thinner, base gasket. You had some material in front of you that would have made a thin gasket(Budweiser can), and the template in the form of the new thick gasket. An Exacto knife or other sharp blade will cut thin brass and aluminum fairly easily. A hole punch can be used for the bolt clearance holes. I use scissors for the periphery. Yamabond or Threebond is a good sealant for metal to metal surfaces.

My local Ace True Value hardware store carries sheet brass, aluminim, and copper in various thicknesses from .005" to .030". I've used both .005" and .010". for gaskets.

LOL, I forgot all about this thread I started. Its finished, runs awesome, and sold! The guy I sold it to wanted a stock top end on it, so I put an OEM piston and cylinder on it I got new from BCorradi.

I just finished rebuilding another 026 that also had to have main bearings replaced. Im just waiting on an oiler worm gear for it.

Good job, Doctor! I need to R&R a crank, bearings, seals etc. on a CHERRY looking 036 Pro that I paid too much for, thinking it was in good shape on eBane. Also seals on an 028 Super. That is impressive that you can accomplish these things. I will likely try to pick up the seal puller kit at some point.......

I wouldn't go a bit tighter than .015". I think mine's at .016" with no problems. Are you aware that you can buy a complete gasket kit for less than the two individual seals? It comes with every gasket and seal for the saw for about $12-$20. PN 1121 007 1050. The one for the 036 I'm working on was $12 and I think $18 for the 046/460.

that's odd. My local dealer said there was no gaskit kit of that 041 you saw in my truck and I had to order seals and gaskets seperatley.....

I ordered an 011 gasket kit when I did mine. Came as described with all gaskets, both style case gaskets for the orange and the white model, and seals for $18 with no discount. Check the IPL's
