Brand New Jonsered 2166 Will Not Start

Hey folks!
Odd story here.....
Coming back from vaca last week, I stopped in a TS store after getting gas to get a few small items. As with all the TS stores I have visited in the last 6 months, they got rid of Jonsered and now deal Huskys.
On the floor in front of the Husky display is a 2166 with a discount tag: 549.99 "Won't start". Orig price was 879.00, I believe. 24 " bar/chain.
I asked to speak to manager, but, of course, was off that day.
I wanted to throw out to you all, what would be the offer you would toss at the manager to buy it? I see brand new ones here PHO for the mid 500's.

As it's a no goer ask his bottom price & see if he'll haggle If he won't deal & says bottom line is $550 the question is it worth to you at this time sorry but only you can answer that as the problem is what is preventing it from starting strange with a new piece of kit

Learning the saw history would be good. Has it been sold and returned? Or store employees flooded it and said screw it - bad saw!? Pull the rope for a compression check.
Tough position - You want to know why it won't start but if you easily start with a proper sequence...then your negotiation position goes south.

My question would be did some customer buy it and not know how to start it and return it. Did some one at TSC try to start it and verify that it would not start?

If the compression is good, this could be quite the deal. Diagnosing small engines is not rocket science. Gas, compression, spark is 90% what it is all about.

The real Q, is do you need a 70cc saw, or in your case another one?

It has not been sold. I could not get more info than that. I took clutch cover off, and it has not seen wood, for sure. Definitely has good compression by my pulls. I was thinking of telling this person you can buy a new saw with warranty for basically his price on the non-working one.

I have always admired this model, but this would be a gift for my nephew who just bought his first home. He has a large woodlot in back, and wants a saw for felling and bucking some pretty nice hardwoods. I would gift it to him on the condition that his favorite uncle can come and cut wood with him!

I would start low at 300 dollars and say its just a parts saw in its condition. Pick it apart and make it sound bad and mabe you can get a better deal.

It could range anywhere from a simple fix on the spot to a $90 ignition coil or flywheel. I'm betting the guy who adjusted the price knows this.

Lucky Nephew. About 5 months ago I was about to buy a MS661, but on inspection and a couple of pulls I determined the compression was low. Checking for spark is easy, then you are almost there. Employees at the TS Store likely don't know much, and you could exceed their knowledge after a few minutes of checking some obvious things. Good Luck!

Could be as simple as spark plug wire off the plug. Having dealt with farm store personnel before it wouldn’t surprise me if it was as simple as that. Lol

Come on. Defective goods? Be tough. You know what is the worst case scenario, current sticker price! It cannot be worse.

Seriously, all great advice, as always here. Thank you so much. I will be stopping by the store tomorrow to talk to manager (if he gets his learner's permit to drive!)
The saw has been sequentially discounted since January......and is still sitting there. If it were me, I would just want it out of there.
Will keep you all posted.

Got it! 375.00 was final selling price. I think I got the manager at a weak point. It has been about 100 deg here for several days. He just came in from the yard, moving trailers around. He looked near death.
Will start tinkering later this week and let you all know how it turns out!
