Why is it if you ask about a stihl or husky you gets lots of replies. But like shindaiwa you get very few? I don't think it is their quality because all that have them love them. So i am guessing it must be cause stihl is well known, and shindys are hard to find. whats your opinion?? And while i am on shindy, best i can tell my 500 is pretty close to the current 488. I think the 488 is 2.9 ci and my 500 is 2.8 ci. So are these two saws pretty close in terms of power and such? I heard shindys got more torque, is this fact or fiction??

Thanks guys!!

Because hardly any of us have used one.

Ask a question about how a Lamghorghini drives and you wont get many responses either

Snapper,

It has been my experience ( after chatting with many people on this site ) that it all comes down to where the saws sell and are used. For example, I live in Pittsburgh Pa. The Shindaiwa distributor is only 15 min. from my home. This distributor covers my state and 7 others. In my city Shindaiwa is a fairly popular product, from their hedgetrimmers to their saws. On the other hand some members on this site have never even seen a Shindaiwa chainsaw. In the short story, marketing. IMO Shindaiwa saws are as good as their Stihl and Husky counterparts. I know that others would disagree with me. I have had alot of experience with their saws. I own practically every current model they sell. Solo also makes a real good saw ( I own 4 of their saws ) but their availability makes them hard to acquire except over the net. As far as if they have more torque, you will open a rats nest with that one. If you have run other saws in the same class and the Shindaiwa feels more torquey than great. All I can say is I like their products. Hope this helps.

I've used that top handled Shindaiwa, their climbing saw. It was okay, a little heavy with a cheapo choke linkage. I won't buy it again, but it wasn't the worst top handled I've used.

I've never seen a big Shindaiwa around here. The only dealer retired a few years ago.

There are a few chainsaw reviews on epinions.com. Don't remember if any Shindaiwa's were commented on, and I don't put a lot of faith in the reviews because many are by harry homeowner that thinks his Poulan Wild Thing is the greatest saw ever produced. It's all relative really. If you're cutting firewood with a handsaw, a Wild Thing will seem like an engineering marvel. I wish there was a thourough and objective source for chainsaw reviews, sort of a consumer's report on saws, but more in depth. They could evaluate things like cutting speed, weight, balance, user convenience, durability, vibration, noise, fuel economy, price, parts availability, etc. At one point I even offered to perform these test myself. I just need everyone to send me their saws so I can begin. Send saws to...
