I have a 22 ton Brave splitter, its 15 years old .I,have split tons of wood over last 15 years.I have a problem hoping someone can help .I was using the splitter yesterday , while the cylinder was retracting I heard a pop,I moved valve in the neutral position.I then tried retracting the cylinder and in the retract position the cylinder moved forward. The opposite of how the cylinder is supposed to move. The cylinder is now all the way out and wont move either way.I can tell there is pressure going to the valve .There are no leaks.Im thinking valve went but not sure any suggestions ?Thanks

Sounds like a valve to me. Couldn’t be a seal in the cylinder because it would either leak or it wouldn’t move because it would just pump oil straight through the cylinder.

Without installing some gauges it a little tough to know what happen. I did have a splitter that did the same thing and when I installed some more gauges to do some testing it was the piston on the cylinder had gotten broken and the cylinder would only extent. Not saying the valve couldn't failed but when I have had valves fail usually they are leaking outside or the detent is worn and won't hold in.

I don't have any gauges,it did make a loud pop when piston was retracting, thats when it quit functioning properly.

That makes sense if the piston broke or came unscrewed from the ram because it could only push against it and not pull but he should be able to push it back by hand if he held the valve in retract position for a little so it would suck the piston back

The piston is all the way out and wont retract, even holding the valve in retract position and prying on it with a big bar.

probably a piston is either broken or separated from the rod or the seal has completely disintegrated . It’s acting as a ram now not a double acting cylinder. Pressure on either side either port is applied to the rod area causing it to extend like a porta power ram or a snowplow ram were there is no piston it’s just a rod seal and the area of the rod is what forces it to extend
