The snow is slowly melting away, and some logs from last year are starting to appear.

I mounted up a well used 20" B&C for my 1st Phase of the break in.
1) Idle for a couple of minutes
2) 2 cuts
3) Let it cool for 30+ minutes
4) Idle for a couple of minutes
5) Another 5 cuts.

For tomorrow I mounted the 24" B&C (Sqr Ground skip tooth) and have another log rolled up atop some quickly made ramps. I'll do as many cuts as this log require, and IMO this saw is then ready for serious work.

I have another 4 or 5 logs still under a good amount of snow, and once I can free them up, I will do the same with the 500i.

I completed my 400c break-in. And the 400c seemed to be searching for steady RPMs at full throttle. More so yesterday, then today. Still I have run a 1/4 to maybe a 1/3 of a tank of gas thru it. When I can get up into the mountains and put a couple of full tanks thru it, it should be perfect.

So far the saw seems very strong easily pulling the 24" B&C, and will be a nice little saw when fully broken in.

I kept track of tanks thru my 400. 7-8 was the sweet spot that it seemed to wake up. My break-in was a little different than yours. Warmed it up for a few minutes then started cutting some oak logs. Nothing crazy but just ran it. This saw impresses me every time I run it. Prolly 25-30? tanks thru it so far. Good luck with yours.

First phase of breakIn of the 500i is complete with the 20" B&C. Unlike the 400c, the 500i was a champion. From the first cut to the last (ninth cut) the saw was smooth and powerful. This 500i is everything I expected it to be. Tomorrow I'll mount the 32" B&C and complete the breakIn, with a log that looks like 9 to 10 cuts. O'Boy!

The next log has been rolled atop the ramps and should be surface dry for clean cutting tomorrow morning.

I found out by accident that the clutch cover on the 261 and the 400c are identical. My outer dogs on the 400c can be simply swapped from the 400 to the 261 and back by just swapping the clutch cover. :happybanana:

I ran the 500i with the 32" B&C this morning. Saw now feels like it has some breakin to complete before fully ready. Unfortunately I am out of wood to cut. Looks like I have 2 to 3 weeks before i can get into the mountains and find fresh winter blown down trees, that I can cut and complete the breakin of the 400c and the 500i.
