I was cutting a limb while the pole was fully extended. When I was almost through the cut when the limb hinged a bit and lifted up a few inches. It was just enough to pull the extension pole out all the way so it disconnected from the head and other pole. I noticed some sort of centering bearing was broken when I tried to put it back together. There was a little washer and cog or something that the shaft goes through.

I have a power pruner that is about 4 years old. Any idea what the part is called and where I can order one? Am I able to operate the saw unextended without the bearing or will it damage the saw?

bearings are extra:laugh:

what a fun fix those things are, mine had the tail shaft strip and it needed replaced, well taken it apart not to bad! LOL.. putn back together a whole other story.

on the black pole there is an end bearing that is basically pop riveted to the pole housing..... if this is what you are referring to...NO it wont work & its even worse if its the star shaft slip yoke bearing!

good luck, I hope you have patience, I walked away from fixing mine so many times, but when working right they cant be beat!!

LXT............

we go through quite a few of them a year. the shaft ends up twisting and requires a new shaft kit from stihl for about $350. For another $150 you can have a completely brand new unit. When this happens up on the shelf it goes and in comes a new one. I don't feel it pays to fix em so we just use them for parts.
