Today I went to dump a load of firewood out of my 2000 Mitsubishi Fuso and it wouldn't go up at first and then made some funny noises going up and down. Upon closer inspection when I arrived home I found out I had one completely broken rod and one cracked. YIKES. So my question is how hard is this to fix and what might have caused this? The truck is going on 11 years old and has 133,000 miles. I grease the hoist regularly and just greased it about a month ago. I've only owned it a year. It has a 10.5 foot long body on it. Used to be a rack body but I cut that off and built a chip body for it. I may take it to the truck shop and have them do it. Its a great truck but has had its teething problems....

Thanks, Mike

If its the ram that broken, it may be cheaper and easier to just get a new one and replace the broken ones. They can be reparied but it is vey difficult. Hope this helps.

Check with your local hydraulic shop. Most can rebuild rams, including replacing the rods. Changing cylinders isn't that difficult. Get the cylinders apart and then decide what to do. Look at/replace the hoses while you have them off. Make sure that there is a safety for the box before you work on it.
