My wife decided to help out in pulling out Grape vines, Sassafrass and choke cherrys the other day. Got a small invasion going on in the South Patch.

I was using a 1/8" cable wrapped a couple times and then yanking things out with the quad. She decided that it takes too long and it slips too much and has seen the Brush Grubber thing in the Bailys Catalog.

Is it worth 75 bucks?
Does it hold up to continious abuse/use?
Would you buy another or upgrade if you do?

Thanks for any and all feedback.

Try some high strength 1/4" chain on a slide hook. Grade 70 chain would be best.

It will outlast the cable, and it should be faster and easier to handle too. The brush grubber looks in-effective for clumps, and too heavy to use all day.

I was thinking the same about the grubber on sumac.

1/4" chain huh?

I'll give it a run as it's cheap enough.

Thanks for the ideas!

I've heard it is good, works on the same princple as lifting tongs.

Have yo looked at the Weed Wrench?

Weed Wrench good! Me gots 3, maybe 4 years. Use lots. Clearing back yard full of saplings. Much brush. Weed wrench good! :)

On soft ground, I usually need to put a short piece of 2x12 under the foot. Other than that, it's great. I wish I had gotten the biggest one, though. I got the next one down. Still, it's pulled a LOT of oak, hickory, and pine saplings.

You can't go down to the hardware store and get high strength chain.

"Proof-coil" means "we can't make it any weaker and still get a magnet to stick to it"

LOL!!
I hear ya.

I wont buy Chineese crap. The Local Hardware caters to us Farm trash and carries some good U.S. made stuff, at a ridiculous cost of course.

70 grade ain't all the same anymore either.
There must be like 3 different grades of "70".

Northern tool 70
Tractor supply 70
honnest to goodness 70

I'll give it a run.

Thanks!!

Mahindra is made in India. While it's not American made, at least you aren't buying from an enemy!

Mahindra Cracks me up!!

Just like Farmtrac was, it's majority owned by the Govt. of India.
All it takes is a couple quarters in the red and then slow recovery, and BAM!!

Good luck finding parts or a dealer to sell 'em to you.

Belarus Tractors made a stir for while. Cheap Horsepower.
Now there's at least a half dozen within 5 miles of here providing shade and shelter for vermin. lOL!!

At least with the Farmtrac, it's all old Ford models rehashed a bit, so there's many Ford Parts that will cross over...if you can find the parts.

Dadgum Roller Chain, is another sore spot with me.
It's either Chineese CRAP that wont last a season, Rebadged Japaneese stuff that costs a fortune at the Deere stealer, or pre-buy in bulk from an industrial ditributor that will gouge your eyeballs out for US made.

They made a splash here, a number of the parts were made in the area. Husco was doing hydraulics...Some assembly was done near my folks house.

Never an Issue with Hydro on 'em! LOL!!!

Driveline was made outta glass though, and they all busted the same parts so finding a donor is near impossible.

GOBS and GOBS of cheap power while it lasted though.
It sucks really. I kinda liked the things.

Well, I actually had the chance to hold one of those things in my hand. I never used one. I wasn't one of the beefier ones though it felt solid and had good weight, it seems like it would be OK.

I reckon I'm gonna find out.

The wife decided she didn't want to play around dealing with chain on the winch.

BAILYS order just 15 bucks short of free shipping right now.LOL!!

I'll post when it comes in and she breaks it, or seems to like it.
One of the two will happen.
