Hey all. Here is a link to an article in regards to tree removal due to ice storms that happened over the past winter in new york. There are 2 pictures on the particular tree they are discussing and I'm just curious as to others opinions or response to the article about the removals.

Thanks!

Great story; thanks for the link. Crooked idiots running Buffalo, but the bottom line of the story was the saddest--the writer who enjoyed the tree so much for so many years would not pay a couple hundred bucks to make it safe enough to stay. He's as dumb as the politicians who call the wood ticks becasue they are too lazy to make FEMA money work for the urban forest instead of against it.

I wouldn't necessarily conclude he didn't pay for repair of the tree. The article was written as a cautionary tale that ended before his own actions.

well put treeseer, it's as if the author didn't figure out through all that that he could pay for it's care as long as he had a permit. wood ticks, heh heh.

Not Necessarily, true, but no indication he did or would take part in the repair. How else do you read this?

"Since Greg Haskell’s assessment, Olmsted Parks arborist Jeff Brett has sent me an email that concluded: “If you or the City wants to invest in having your tree braced and cabled, I would retract my recommendation to have it removed.”

So there we are. It’s a matter of a few hundred dollars for the repairs. For my part, I know what I’d do if the tree were really mine."

That bothers me a lot.

After all that he's still only willing to do the right thing if someone else pays for it.

I know what I am willing to do for the street trees in front of my house, and I don't give a good ??????? if the money comes out of my pocket.

Some folks wait for the gummint to do it all, cradle to grave. We are becoming a nation of sheep. I'm reminded of the poster from Denver who let a big branch that fell off her tree just lie there all winter, then squawked mightily when the neighbors called the city to look at the tree.
