Burn Barrel

Ahhh...... the memories. I used to work at a place (construction related) where we burned the trash in a burn barrel in the winter. Every now and then we "accidentally" ended up with an empty spray paint can in the trash to liven things up. One time we had one rocket about three hundred feet in the air....... emptied the building out, everyone wanting to see what exactly caused the windows to rattle.

Of course, i would never condone that type of foolish behavior today...........

The way we do it out here on the farm is take a couple of big tractor rims stack one on top of the othr and weld them together, much thicker than a standard 55 gallon drum and will last a lot longer, for air flow you take a 12 gauge shotgun and some deer slugs , best to keep back a safe distance. the slugs have enough power to penetrate one side but not both sides. Then you got yourself a burn barrel that will never rot out, ok so maybe after 10-12 yrs., all i know is the one i use e-day for burning is still standing after 8 yrs. and doesn't show any signs of rotting through anytime soon.

Used to have a burn barrell at the shooting range I created in a disused sandpit not far frem where I used to live. Found that the burning was poor without some air circulation from below. We just used it for target practice for a few rounds and that fixed that.

The brush and other waste I produce gets hauled to the town brushpile. Gives me a pretense to scope out the pile. Anything is 6" and under is considered brush and I've gotten quite a bit of wood that way. Sometimes, if I'm really lucky, I find split firewood that for some reason was drug down there. Maybe someone's fireplace wood got too dirty??

We always burned ours in the field till this year. The neighbor just got into making wood, carboard, and corn cob pellets, so we are saving the brush for him.
