Juglans cinerea are a zone 3 tree and would grow in Ohio till "the fungus" gets 'em. About $5 for 18"-24" ers.

www.nafex.net is a good site to find out what grows where. You'll probably find someone from your area who has tried just about everything and who will be able to tell you what to watch out for. As far as I'm concerned anything is worth a shot - worst that happens is it doesn't work, and its a lot of fun trying.
