that's the best investment i ever made. cost me a pretty penny, but it smokes a bucket truck any day because with a twist of the joystick it can move anywhere you want....even through mud and up hills. laid off all my climbers and now only hire brush draggers. i highly recommend you all look at getting one of these.

What is the cost difference between that and a bucket truck? Then you have to have a truck (and trailer) anyway to haul the thing around, take the time to load/unload. I have considered it but not convinced yet.

todd,
it's one of those pieces of equipment that don't make sense on the books at first. a used lift will cost the same as a used 55ft bucket truck and you have to spend $200 each time to move it (via semi-flatbed). thing is you can kill your competition on large jobs with price and profit. the last job i had was 1,100 palm trees and it was like mowing the lawn in the air. a bucket truck can't go through mud, up hill, or through small openings like this thing can. plus you no longer have to hire climbers, pay high wages, and rely on them. half the time my climbers would show up late, be hung over, etc. the headaches are gone and i win 90% of the bids i enter. you won't even want to look at residential work anymore. rent one for a large project and you'll be sold on it.

it's much more easier to find "a deal" on these lifts in the midwest and northeast. older ones are plentiful around $10,000 up there. maybe because of the construction boom down south.

ok you convinced me. Its not for me. We don't do too many big jobs up this way. If we do it involves a skidder! $200 everytime I had to move it would kill me. I have used them on jobs before where they were already on site and they are indeed sweet. I need one truck to do it all bucket/chips/equipment.

I hear ya. I don't know exactly the configuration of what you have but I say this " Go ahead, try to tuck that bucket truck in there, good luck and don't die."
Add in all the low bridges and a bucket truck, while still a fine piece, is just going to be a hassle.
I rent a 50 foot towable which might cost 350 a day, about what is the cost to keep a truck I don't use everyday on the road.

it's a 60ft straight telescopic. retracts to about 20ft or so. what's also nice it has an 8ft basket which is great for keeping a cooler, gas, oil, multi chainsaws and gear. you never have to come down.

can put multiple people in it too. or piece down limbs as long as they are less than 1,000lbs (including your weight)

I bet your work looks beautiful crashin that 8 foot wide basket through the canopy. And I can only imagine how effective a straight boom is for moving through branches and around other trees, poles, wires, houses, and everything else that I'm sure is never in your way.

Got pics of your machine? Got some of your work? Because until I see 'em, I think you're full of BS.

How do you get it over front retaining walls for trees in back?

I'm guessing you mean you still offer some climbing.

Or are the properties all big and open out there?

who makes this wonder machine ???? just asking,, because i've used buckets, and lifts,, up to 125 FT...

do you have a make and model of the machine you are talking about ?????

becuse after using GENIE , JGL ,, ETC 4X4 lifts , up to 80 FT... i don't know what kind of hill you are going up .. they have trouble getting up the trailer to move them !!!!!! ( i know,,,the ones i used were rentals,, there for beat,,, but you picked up a pristine used one !!!)

i'm all about the right tool , for the right job... they have their place ....

but, i really think you are talking out of your a$$ , with some of your claims !!! JMHO

He is talking about an old straight boom construction lift. Like a JLG. Uninsulated big old basket type of deal. I have seen them at auctions go for $10,000. They are not worth a sh!t for tree work.

Spam

Remember this guy? C,mon, went by a different name, gets his guys from fast food places, pays them cheap, gets rope from the hardware store???? A troll, waste of time. What was his name, someone knows.

LOLOL.....yup, everything you said was claimed by Treeminator/Treeinnovator on the forum here.

I guess we should consider ourselves lucky......he didn't post for a whole year.

But everybody's luck runs out sometime.

they are great,,, if your doing pruning in a big parking lot,,, office park,,,or a town home complex....where you can drive the thing around ,, up in the air ... but you have to have 5 days worth of work to justify the cost of the rental, and delivery....

Thanks, I had forgotten the name. Kind of like Goblin/Covered in Sap. All B.S., all of it, a troll.

Ive been renting a 66 foot jlg until i bought my bucket truck and that extra 6 feet you get from that jib sure makes a difference. its a pain in the ass to haul BUT i must agree once you get it to the jobsite its alot faster and i think it reaches more.

thanks clearance. i remember this guy too. fast food/grocery guys turned tree machines. very little pay/respect. how does he have more green things than me???!!! ooops, don't mean to beg, but i take this site for real. and just to stay on track, "mowing lawns in the air"?? is that what tree work is supposed to look/sound like?
