So i'm looking at buying my first personal chip truck for doing my side work around town apart from my my full time job. It will be used lightly just for the occasional chipping and hauling logs so it doesn't need to be anything crazy. I found a pretty decent 1981 F350 dually obviousley with a 351 and a 4 speed. I'm not concerned with the tranny or rear end but more so the pulling power of the 351. I'm very familiar with Chevys and know what a 350 can do but have no experience with the 351 motor. Will I working this motor too hard with a load of chips and a small 6" chipper? I think it'd be slow but pull it ok. Any Ford guys?

It will pull the weight if it's a good running engine. You need to be more concerned with stopping it. Make sure your brakes are solid man, going fast is an option, stopping isnt!

Yea .... Those trucks pull .... But in typical ford fashion they can't stop what they are pulling ... I have a mean ass 78 350 chip truck , same 351 for sale, needs all new shoes though and god knows what will leak when it fires up it's been sitting hooked to the chuck and duck for 5 years but ran like a raped ape the day it was parked

I bought a K30 with a 6.2 diesel but the cab is so ****ed on it I don't wana deal with it. And I got a guy coming to buy it for twice what I paid. The ford I'm looking at is in much better shape and it's standard I hate autos.

Should've said something, I have a mint cab I might sell for the right price. No rust, all original.

Paid $750 for the truck not really worth for me to put money into it. Got a guy buying it for $1500 so I'm guna let it go. I could probably sell that cab for you though all we do out here is old Chevys

Just erased a bunch of old pics the other day. This the only one I have of the cab (its outside on the frame under a tarp now). You get the idea, all recaulked and pained with epoxy sealer and iron clad oil based. Like to get $1500 for it. Anything less and I'll probably just keep it in case my truck needs it. The frame is for sale too maybe. New tanks, brackets, sending units, etc. K 3500. 2010-01-16 18.15.43.jpg

I've got an 84 f350 with a 460. It will pull anything you put behind it, slowly. These older one tons are great pullers and with proper springs can take a serious load. Beware the D.O.T!!!
