So i posted a couple months back on the "Homeowners help form" about taking down this large maple in front of my house.

http://arboristsite.com/showthread.php?t=78134

As you can see in the pictures the tree is close to both the house and the power lines so the power company is having the tree taken down either monday or tuesday and leaving me the wood :greenchainsaw: .

I am thinking their is 2 solid cords of wood as long as the tree crew doesn't chip anything bigger than 4-6 inches (heres hoping the tree crew guy i talked to friday told his guys not to go chipper happy)

Also hopeing to get a cople nice rounds out of the wood to make end tables out of for the living room. We will see what the main trunk holds this week sometime.

yeah it is deffinitly going to cause the house to warm up much faster in the summer time. Wife doesn't understand that yet but she will this coming summer. Even before the tree had a crack in it she wanted it taken down but i said nope cause i know its helping keep the house cool in the summer time...at least i don't have to shell out 2k for the take down.

Should be some really nice firewood out of that tree. Shame it has to come down. Looks like it provides some really nice shade in the summer months.

Here's to hoping all goes well during the take down.

couple more of the area were the tree was split.

Now all i gotta do is more it across the yard, stack it on pallets, and rent the splitter for a day again - i would like one more truck load of wood i think before i do get a splitter. Got my eye on a couple downed oaks at work that i can have - just need to free up some time between holidays, wife, kids and work.

Stew, I liked your fall shot with the tree standing... But can understand your wife being concerned if it was spilt and worried about it falling on the house :)

Nice job, I would hate to cut something that close to anything, I am an open woods cutter to say the least, and usually don't even have to fall anything as there is plenty on the ground already, or stand deads which are easy to drop.

glad to see it worked out.

good thing my dump truck is empty and you're a sound sleeper.:greenchainsaw:

the condition of that trunk is all to common with those around here.i see it all the time.

Here is the aftermath. My wife likes it but i am unsure. My neighbors like it without the tree.

It's a shame that it had to go.. but it doesn't look too bad at all. I have a few aspen trees growing by the log cabin that I hope will start to throw a bit more shade. They are on the west side, so they do block out the sun from afternoon tv watching.
