Hi guys I gotta problem my Homelite C-5 is sick and im looking for a new clutch and sprocket for it ,Ive already had to prefab a new rewind spring useing a Recoil unit off a old blown up 59 murcury 10 horse boat motor but i cant make another clutch and this old lady is to good of saw to let die .
people around here been waiting to see me fall outta one of these big oak tree,s for awhile because im only 170lbs and 5,7 and ive been going up and cutting there trees for along time but i dont like the new saws and id rather cuy a tree with a pull saw than use a new peice of plastic garbage they make now days ,im working on an old poulan model 62 and it might live she,s got spark and good compression just gotta take care the carb problem .sure hope someone out there has some parts ,if so let me know much appreciated

I found with my C7 and C5 if it isn't running well its probably one of two things.
1) Needs a carb rebuild kit (about 6 dollars at your local chainsaw store..oregon brand)
2) The spark plug wire to coil connection is bad. Set the points, pull that wire out of the coil & clean things up. Stuff it back in with some good RTV and my bet that saw runs well.

(assuming the piston/rings provide good compression and the fuel line isn't rotted out of the tank....which also is a real easy fix)

The sprocket is best replaces with one of those universal spline deals with the little round sprockets. Then you can easily swap from .404 to 3/8 and lower the cost of buying bar&chain combo's...

What do you need for clutch parts? I may have a few bits and pieces.

clutch

The clutch is starting to slip and id rather fix it now than just keep running the saw into the ground its a great saw ive built 3 cabins up north in alaska with this saw and its even started at 30 below and its been more faithful than my Ex and done alot more work . let me know if youve got any spare parts and how much thanks Richard Ps the old Poulan Model 62 has the same pull starter setup as the C-5 just some info for you .

What type of rtv have you had good luck with. I'm trying to reassemble an ignition module in an old Husky and would like some advice. I had planned on silver soldering the plug wire to the module and epoxying it in place.

Hey Richard,I think Oz has the parts list for a c5 ,on his site.On occasion,Homey parts pop up on e-bay,most of the time, without a description, only a part number.A lot of times they go cheap because nobody knows what they fit.An example would be that I got a complete ,new drum, rim sprocket and bearing for a 2100s,for less than $15.These things are rare to find ,but I lucked out, because I knew the numbers.

I've been using the Permatex Copper...but I think the epoxy route might be better.
The plug wire has no chance of being pulled because of the strain releif bracket holding the wire out towards the handle end of the saw...The only question I would have about epoxy is its ability to flex with temperature changes & maintain its bond to the ignition module's plastic.

On the motorcycles stuff (If thats the Husky your working on vs. saw) you have to put some thought into those old Motoplats. The silver soder/epoxy approach worked well if you left enough room to RTV the out side. Really need the water seal and the epoxy will break away from the red plastic of the coil with time and vibration. Just a LITTLE moisture in those ???? things and the spark gets really weak....I know I have a 1982 XC430 thats gone through that issue. I plan to just replace the thing with an aftermarket brand (PVL) ignition.

Hey Weimedog let me know what you have and how much ,I found some parts on Ebay for my C-5 now i just gotta figure out why my Homelite 330 started surging when i use it im thinking its the fuel line seems to run good when i tilt the saw noise down but cuts out when i lay the noise of the bar up ,hate it when my saws dontrun good i cut Big oaks usually with a 36 in trunk .thanks

Richard 59, I'd bet on the carb-to-block rubber boot being torn in your 330. That's just the way mine acted both times the boot tore.

What I have left is the cases & bottom end, fuel tank, carb&reed valves, handle assembly etc. The cylinder & piston are toast. I canibalized the saw's pull start, bar&chain, Clutch cover&chain adjusting assembly, and ignition to complete my C-7. I believe the crank is good. The clutch is missing a shoe (or I would have offered it in the origional post). I think you would do better by eBay-ing what you need or if I have something you need on the carcass I'll dig it out. Actually...I'd rather trade stuff if you have anything of similar condition & value for my C-7, Super 77, 707g, or how about a bar for my Super EZ? Maybe a bar for one of the other saws?

While I'm on that subject(to you other saw junkies), I need top end parts for my 707g and Super 77. I also am always looking for good bar/chain combinations for my big Homelites (C-7, XP-1030, Super 1130). Also want clutch shoes for my McCulloch and those Big Homelites..Also ALWAYS looking for Homelite XL-800 thru XL-925 project saws and parts.......I'm willing to swap any or all of the C-5 stuff and also my XL-12 power head. The XL-12 runs pretty well even with a scratched piston. The cylinder is fine and I do have a N.O.S piston in a box for it. Just it runs too well to justify swapping it in.
