Hello all. First off I would like to say I have gained more knowledge of how to make sawdust here than I have anywhere else in all my 54 years. I am confused now as to this new addiction that is sweeping the world. In talking with Granberg Mills who is fueling this disease, they claim that demand is greater than they can keep up with at times. What is going on? As to my own afflictions, is it normal to call the multiple boxes that arrived fed ex, just some parts I need for my chainsaw? Then how do I explain the new Swede power head? I didnt feel like an addict, but i waited until my wife went to bed before spreading all the parts out on her oak dining table and assembling. Is it ok to slightly rev a new power head with no bar or chain at 1:am. I started with bsm, and have now progressed at a rapid pace into csm, where does this lead? and where does it end? Now i have myself looking at an antique Diston and trying to figure out how to get it shipped to Wa. As a close, I put these purchases on my Cabelas card to conceal them as family camping necessities and can brag that we gained point towards further free stuff we can share together. ( you can actully make $$ doing it this way ) Gotta go! the neighbor boys have showed up to haul the slabs, I gotta get my fix before breakfast.

Not to mention the thousands of folks "rolling their own"

What is going on?
This addiction is highly contagious because it all looks so simple and the rewards look high.

Yes

Then how do I explain the new Swede power head?
Just aay "everybody has them", "they are the in-thing" and "the alternative is German"

I didnt feel like an addict, but i waited until my wife went to bed before spreading all the parts out on her oak dining table and assembling.
Well I would never get away with that.

Not in my inner city neighbourhood

I started with bsm, and have now progressed at a rapid pace into csm, where does this lead? and where does it end?
Usually it's the other way - CSM then BSM.

Now i have myself looking at an antique Diston and trying to figure out how to get it shipped to Wa.
Humm, . . . . . new virulent strain has arrived I see.

As a close, I put these purchases on my Cabelas card to conceal them as family camping necessities and can brag that we gained point towards further free stuff we can share together. ( you can actully make $$ doing it this way )
Rationalisation of the irrational - a sure sign you have it bad.

Welcome aboard!

Yep, you got it. I have a Disston DA211 and have thought about mounting it to a carriage. Kerf is a killer on that one, you lose a board about every other cut. I've also thought about putting an electric motor on the Disston transmission. But, again, the kerf is giant. Anyway, good luck with your milling, Joe.

AndyPete, welcome to the forum. I feel sorry for the poor folks with CAD. As for me, I only need one more chain saw. I work on saws on the kitchen table only because every horizontal surface in the garage is already covered with parts. I've got my Husqvarna 2100 purring like a kitten, and the Norwood band saw mill cutting straight and true. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got a white oak log to mill up before the wife wakes up...

As kids we lived in a small country town that had half a dozen timber mills. Dad was a timber faller and so was our neighbour (Mr Crane) over the back and our next door neighbour also worked in a mill. The Cranes were the first of the locals to get a TV (The nearest TV station was ~200 miles away so a 60 ft high antenna was needed) and all the neighbourhood kids would pile into their very dirty living room to watch the TV, where Mr Crane also liked to fix his chainsaws. There were so many parts spread all over the floor that it was hard to find a spot to sit so we often stood and the room reeked of mix as there were also usually several open tin can's half filled with fuel for soaking parts etc on the floor. Mr Crane was a chain smoker and always had a butt hanging from his lips. Mrs Crane and several of her older daughter were also chain smokers and to watch TV stood at the kitchen door with their hands holding their cigarettes in the kitchen. Every time I think about this I wonder why the room didn't go up in flames

Welcome to AS andypete! You are ahead of a lot of guys here if you already have a BSM, and have just got yourself an Alaskan. Happy days ahead:rock:

Oh man I have that too.

Then you're in the right place (unless you want to be cured)... sounds like you're one of us. This is in your future:
