I'm new to milling and I have been reading up a lot on the what kind of mill to get, havent even bought one yet. Is it possible to get just a Granberg Mini Mill and do my milling with that? I think making the first cut would be the hardest, but I think it could be done if the mini mill guide board is secured and level to the top of the log.

Another Idea I had was to mount the Mini Mill on a 2x6 and secure it between saw horses, then i roll my log in between the saw horses. So the Mill would be stationary, and the log would come to the mill. Does this sound crazy? Anyone ever tried it?

Any suggestions or words of wisdom to these ideas would be much appreciated. The popular choice seems to be the a CSM like an Alaskan mill but I was just curious if it can be done another way.

Thanks,
jason

It will be much easier to move the saw horses to the log than the log to the saw horses.

for small (and short) logs you can tek screw the 2 x 6 to the log and suspend the 2 x 6 between the sawhorses.
