"It has a piece missing in the front that you can see in the picture but it doesn't effect the running ability it is just cosmetic as far as I can see....."

Dang!

I've been stung several times on ebay with chain saws.

Me too.

Worse than the high prices are the jerks that want $50 to ship if they don't get their price.

Grrrr.

yet, there I am almost very day, looking at the listings. I have a new strategy, however. I decide what I can afford to throw away, bid that amount and deal with my dismay when some character is willing to pay an obscene amount for some old clunker I need a part off of. I'm saving $$$...haven't bought anything in a while.

Watch out for dragonwink also, I was royally screwed. 024 that
died as soon as you put it in a cut. It was completely rebuilt by
me, not dragonwink. Just a heads up, I hope he/she does reside
here so I can vent a little. Again, fool me once, shame on you,
fool me twice, shame on me. If anyone else has had a good
experience, I apologize, I did not.

Just a small pic of everything that had to be gone through. I also
had to find a new side cover.............

I e-mailed this guy and told him his saw was junk. I got a nasty reply that the oil tank DID NOT LEAK and I didn't know what I was talking about.

That doesn't surprise me.

I had a 036 come in the shop like that a year ago. I took a piece of flat aluiminum and some strong epoxy. Fixed it and said no guarantee.

as far as I know he is still using it,

I recently bought a 066 Arctic that was allegedly gone through and was in good condition, sure was a filthy piece when I got it! I went through it and found a bad piston, cracked chain cover and a bad air cleaner cover. The seller was nice enough to send a used piston/cylinder, a pos cracked and corroded chain cover replacement and an air cleaner cover off of a 046 that won't fit. I should have filed a fraud claim first thing with eBay but I gave this guy a chance. Well the saw runs great now that I did some porting work (Saw kicks butt actually), still have to get a chain and air cover though but still saved hundreds. And should be able to sell it after a year and still get my investment back.

It’s best to ignore the sellers with only a few sales to their credit unless the pictures show otherwise.

I think buddy is right...his saw does not leak oil...I emailed him as well, and got a nasty response...lol...but I think I deserve it. The oil tank on the 066 is right above that hole. I went to the store and looked at one of my saws and sure enough...my bad...

I've been burned a couple times with saws on eBay. The first wasn't so bad. I got an 011aveq for $40 described in fine running condition. It actually had a bad piston, low compression, and an air cleaner that hasn't been looked at since it left Germany. It's waiting for me to get off my tail and fix it.

The second time was a real doozy. Bought an 026 that supposedly was in terrific shape and great, but the coil was removed for another saw. Well, at least the last part was right. The box it came in had been cut open and gas was leaking all over the place from a broken vent. This thing looked like it had been seized up and then dragged behind a truck going cross-country. Boy, that piston was bad--the rings had melted. I even found a rental sticker after I cleaned some of the dirt off. It was totally wrecked and only good for some internal and housing parts. Paid $75, kept the bar, chain, and air filter, and sold it for around $50 with an honest description.

Always ask lots of questions and make sure you have good photos, unless you can't lose at all. You might get lucky, I did once.

As of today I have not gotten an item that was totally junk but I have been disappointed. My problem is never getting the item which has happen several times and for big bucks. As a seller I have goteen a rash of no paying bidders or slow pays. If you do not want it do not buy it. I sent numerous emails to a guy about a $5 14" bar. He never eturned my emails until 45 days later. He then claimed he did not have a total or payment address. He was so stupid he did not realize the info was in the email he was replying to. It has been over two months and no payment. This is not the first time this has happened.
