Jetta for estimates

The most successful residential tree service around here started with a jetta and some pole saws sticking out the window. The guy even talks about his humble beginnings on his web site. Of course he's also the best tree salesman I've ever seen...but yeah it shouldnt matter if yer good. I use my 99 tacoma extra cab, close enough to company colors (just a different shade of green), all lettered on the doors. I think if a potential customer is waiting for you alot of them are relieved to see a clearly distinguishable vehicle pull up looking professional - especially with the work being so dangerous and all. It all matters imo, I have actually had a customer say "wow, your chipper even matches your truck, you dont see that much these days, I feel better".

I love the concept of VW's, especially the TDI's but they're so quirky I get skittish around them. My jetta was nothing but a money pit and my father's has turned out to be pretty much the same thing. My uncle loves his, as does one of my good friends, who also owns a microbus and vanagon, but they're both mechanics. I will admit, every VW I've piloted has brought a smile to my face and no one can disagree with how sharp they look. Anywho, I still think a load of saws and gear will make one squat pretty good and at 6 feet tall, the rear of a Jetta is far from a comfortable location for me.

I'm 6' 2", and my Jetta has more leg & head room than ANY of my trucks. In fact, I can't really reach the clutch too well with the seat all the way back. Try to keep in mind, they are built by and for a german population, which runs on the tall side of the population.

Seated in the back seat... well, that might get crowded, depending on who is in the front seat.

Outback makes my desired first impression. See?
Arborcars? Ok, stop. Are they gay arborcars? Nah, its a good idea if you need a fleet.
Nothing says treeman like burning up your big ass truck to drive around like that. A dam waste. There is a tool for everything.

Neon

I use a 97 Neon with 193000 miles on it. I just brought it up to my brother about going to estimates in the Neon and what people think. But where I am I travel 30 to 60 miles round trip on an estimate, and running my 3/4 ton truck w/a 6.o in it and getting 13 mpg doesn't make a lot of sense. I haven't noticed so far that people care. I act professional and conduct the est. as professionaly and friendly as I can and people seem to like it. I think it is more on how you present yourself than what you drive.

Why run a truck like that is right. People respond to sense. If I know I am headed to an estimate in a ritzy craphole I roll with the shiny new 4 runner. ( If I can get permission). But even that burns more that a 4 banger which if you don't have you are losing.
I was so close to getting a wrangler or some toy to replace the outback but anything other than a car just like that don't make ANY sense.
