So I made a pretty stupid mistake. I went to my container that I use for puttin purple cleaner in to clean my carburetor and what do I find, my carb from the 044 I'm rebuilding. Turns out it's been in there for a week. I was cleaning it and I got a phone call and had to leave right away and when I got back I had forgotten about it. So a coating of white stuff had formed on my carb and I rinsed a lot of it off with water, but it's not all off. I was wondering if anyone has ever done this and what I should do. Should I put it into purple cleaner again(not for a week)? Wire brush? Thanks. Evan

It may be toast. You're not supposed to put aluminum in diluted purple cleaner for more than a few minutes at most... and I'd never put a carb in it.

Try white vinegar to remove the white stuff.. but I'd chuck it and get another.

Metering chamber? Is that the part between throttle and choke butterfly. Or is that top or bottom? Evan

Is this the metering chamber?

Thanks. Evan

yes.....not advisable to attempt to clean it as the passages will have the same corrosion and will most likely make the carb near impossible to tune and worse case case cause a lean seizure at a later date when a jet clogs

So if I get a used carb should I automatically put a kit on it or should I try to run the saw on it? Or is there someway to inspect it? Evan

There is a little check valve disc under the round brass part load jet in the upper right of your picture, and the other brass part below is the high speed nozzle, which has a woven fiber coated check valve disc in it, and they are for sure going to leak now. Get me the carb number off the side of the carb and I will look in my pile and see if I have a spare, and if so I will run it on one of my saws to be sure it is good, and get it to you.

Man I'm kickin myself right now. First I soaked it for a week and then I didnt wait until stihl #1 came along. Evan

Evan, I've been watching the voting pattern and I'm pretty sure about this.

I vote to lynch 044 Carb

Sorry to anyone who doesn't understand this. Semi-private joke with Chainsawjunky
