After 30 years I finally bought a pair. I was surprised to find they come with no care instructions. Can they be thrown in the wash or do they require special handling?

Also wonder if I made a mistake. I bought the regular ones, not the ones worn under the pants. I was looking at 'ease of removal' for when I didn't want them on. Then I got to thinking about all the 'snag' possibilities when I am brushing out the limbs.

I didn't know Carhartt made any. I don't have any in front of me, but I'm sure its a washer/dryer operation. As I recall, they want you to wash and dry them when soiled to keep the material fluffed up. I'm working from memory here, I don't think I've ever washed a set, so someone please correct me.

Wait, I just remembered my Stihl logging pants are over there on the floor. Tag says machine wash warm, no bleach, tumble dry.

Well, my face is red. I had a pm inquiry about where I found them so I check them out. Nope, not Carhart's. They came in a Carhart bag so I had assumed (silly me). They are 'Woody's stuff' "made in Mexico". Just checked for tags in them. Will need to get the magnifying glass out to read the entire label but all I can make out now is the safety type stuff.

Mom here :buttkick: talking: check out those "Mexican" chaps. You Like your femoral artery ? ALL chaps that protect you must have a "UL" label certifying that they are made to stop/slow down a running chain BEFORE it does a job on your skin. Otherwise they're just a male T_T :taped: , simply useless. Never heard about "Woody" for PROTECTIVE chaps. Husky, Stihl, Bailey's, Labonville, etc....all buy or make real chaps: full wrap, pants with protective inserts, or just chaps. Pay the $$$$, get real chaps. The honest chaps will have a big big label telling you how to care for them, and that they are for real.

Can you read Spanish,,, Lol, Sheesh here we go again!!!!! :sucks:

I'm just disappointed that Carhartt doesn't make chaps yet! Harry got me all excited. They'd probably be overpriced if they were on the market anyway!

Well, they do have the UL label."IAW ASTM f1897" (1998). Not full wrap though. Yes, I have been hit with a thrown chain right there. One of the reasons I bit the bullet and finally bought a pair. They wrap far enough to fairly well protect the important areas. Only the back of the leg would get hit.

i don't think so.it's quality stuff made in the USA.compare their jeans to levis.much better quality and less expensive, and not made by some third world chicken chaser.

and you gun guys need to know that levis is anti gun!

AGREED!!! I don't wear Levis at all. They only last a couple months at work. Carhartts are good for a couple years or more.

More expensive...but last longer....good point, hornett22.

They'd be Chinese if they did. I went to a Carhartt store the other day to replace my jacket and most of what they had was made in China or some other country with little to no enforced labor laws. If I am forced to buy a Chinese product, I will go to Walmart (A.K.A China King) and get a Polar-Tec for 49.95 instead of paying a premium price for something that might have been made in the same sweatshop just with different patches and zipper pulls. Carhartt built a reputation based on Made-in-the-USA quality and then took their manufacturing overseas.

I wrote them an e-mail to that effect also. I'm done with them till I see more USA in their labels.

Used to be made in the US. There are only a few clothing items that are still made in the US, most of their other stuff is made in foreign countries.
They make two types of work pants, three jackets and one bib overall proclaimed as MADE IN USA. Other items are listed 'MIXED' origin, meaning that there are still stocks of US made but most made overseas or Mexico.
The items now made in foreign countries still cost the same as they used to when it they were made in the US.
I bet Carhartts are made in the same factories in Mexico and China now that the cheap work clothes are made in, they probably just slap on the Carhartt logo and color them different.
I just bought a Walls jacket made in China.
All the work clothes in HD, TSC, Walmart, Kmart and Lowe's are made in China.
Everything is made in China now, they must be having one hell of an industrial revolution going on there. We are funding the Chinese military buildup.

Yeah, I hear you.
I did buy a chinese Carhartt light work jacket for $60 this week because I couldn't find anything else I liked better.
But back in January, I saw a Walls jacket for $30 at KMart and it looked about the same as a Carhartt made in China selling for $75 in Dicks. Guess which one I bought???? Probably made in the same exact factory. One jacket got a 'C' label and a $75 price tag, and the other got a 'W' label with a $30 price tag.
If they are both made in the same place, I'll buy the less expensive one.

Things are looking up tho, at least in the China arena. I read this morning that they just passed tax reforms that took away the tax incentives that foreign manufacturers enjoyed and their head official said that they wanted to get away from the cheap products and start investing some of their 1 Trillion trade surplus in the back country that has been polluted and abused in recent years by the various bottom dollar factories. http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070316/bs_afp/chinacongressnpc_070316112955

We're putting more duties on their products too it seems:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070315/pl_nm/usa_china_trade_dc;_ylt=AkWyEtPxfmM48Qxe.ac1p90a.3QA

Now what this means is that we will end up paying more at the checkout but in return, US companies might be able to turn a profit with USA made product.

Same pants. Last year and this year.

THAT SUCKS!

American made jeans

There are a few American made Jeans out there. The one I wear is made by a company called Pointer Brand. Good quality, about the same price as Levis that are made overseas. Only shortcoming is you order online, if wrong size then return for refund/exchange through the mail.

I used to buy alot of that Carhart stuff, but I don't anymore....I have figured out that it is for wannabees that are trying to look macho...My wife came home with three pairs of those thick brown Carhart pants for me about two years ago...It had just so happened that I had bought two new pairs of wrangler jeans the same day....I keep a can of Skoal(nasty habit I know) always in my left front pocket...It wore holes clean through all three of those pants within less than a year, and I still have the wrangler jeans I bought that same day....My wife bought me a thick green carhart jacket last year around Christmas...I wear it to work in during the winter, and it has held up well, but it has only been washed four times, and the color has almost completely faded out of it....My wife has three pairs of Carhart overalls, she has even lost a little weight since she bought them two years ago,and they have shrunk from washing so much, she can't even wear them anymore. And she always washed them in cold water and hung them out to dry..She also has a couple pairs of Pointer brand overalls, she's had them three years, and even after wearing them to help me work, they still almost look new..and so do the Liberty overalls she has.I promise ya'll she's 100% woman, she does her nails all the time and wears high heels and make-up on occasion, but she loves wearing overalls to work outside in.The last two pairs of carhart pants I bought were bought one size too big in hopes that they would never shrink down to where I couldn't squeeze into them like all the others I've had...And now I still have to squeeze into them...I just thought it was funny that as expensive as all that stuff was...All of the Wrangler jeans I bought at Wal Mart lasted longer and are more comfortable to wear...I'm very hard on my clothes,so I thought Carhart was the ticket....I doubt I'll ever buy Carhart again.
