Hi guys this is my first thread. So if more info is needed let me know. Been in the tree business for years just starting out on my own purchased a used 2500-4 with a 25hp Kohler. The motor &$@& the bed and they don't make the 25 anymore. Does anyone out there have a spec number off of the 27 hp Kohler? Any help is greatly appreciated thanks.

Kohler make the 25hp still. Only trouble is, the 27 is normally cheaper because production is higher on that one now. . I have a 27 on my Vermeer but I bought that from Vermeer. Maybe you should price the engine from Carlton. They should also give you the spec number. I still run the 25 on my Carlton because it is low hours.

Rootzone- got a price from Carlton and my local engine dealer both about 3000. Neither of them would give up the spec number.
Brian- that's awesome thanks for the pic it helps narrow it down.

Your Welcome. Let me know if you need anything else. The 25 and 27 should have the same engine mount and shaft center height.

I paid 2200 for mine last November. Just read the info off the old engine and googled it.
I paid 1760 for mine from Vermeer about the same time. Slightly different to Carlton, but usable because mounting pattern and shaft is the same. Elect conns different.

Thank you all the help guys. Found one that is a prefect match.

Just an fyi- these are great motors but their weak point is that the magnets on the flywheel are simply glued on. In time they fly off, sometimes taking out the stator. Definitely save the old block. I just did one of mine, flywheel alone was 200.00

That happened to mine after I stalled it hard one day. I heard some clicking and clanging while it worked for another half hour, then she went kaput.
