Charlotte North Carolina,
Just bought a used 4012 with 33 Kubota engine....as part of my purchase agreement the company I bought this machine from replaced one of the drive hyd. motors...my concern is this: is this a problem on these machines?

Anyone out there had any experiances to share??

Carlton 4012

I had problems with my 2500-4 chain drive single motor breaking ears off the motor I made a pipe simi-circle collar for it has been working but now I broke the cutter wheel shaft and cant find parts in Texas, How much was the used diesel I get so sick of poor-boying it I posted 2500-4 broken cutter wheel shaft and no responses yet,

try your local machine shop, i have one near me and they can make any thing and 75percent of the time there cheaper that buying the part or parts from the dealer. just an idea.

After about 3 years of replacing half moon keys that kept sheering off, eventually causing other problems along the shaft I had to take my hydraulic drive motors to a danfoss dealer and get the shafts replaced. They replace them with a square key shaft that works just as well as the half moon key(don't know why Carlton didn't use these ones to begin with, u can cut a key out of standar square bar, instead of scrambling for an elusive half moon key) anyway, I also had to buy 2 new hubs as those were also damaged and worn from the nearly monthly key shearing that was going on. Once I did that, no more problems. Carlton sent some of the first 4012 kobo tags out with hubs that were too wide so when u tightened the hub nut, the hub would press agains the motor and not tighten onto the tapered shaft properly, that's why the keys shear, no matter how hard you tighten that big nut, it won't fasten to the taper because it can't go on far enough. Very expensive exercise, and none of it is us the consumers fault. Anyway, now that I've gotten over that I have no problems, and I still just love the machine. If you can GET THE REMOTE, it will change your life.

thanks and welcome SD, my 2500-4 is one motor chain drive no differential so the mottor would bind up and broke the ears off, I welded up a collor that slides over the motor up to the hoses and bolts to the frame to cure the ears snapping and new chain and sprocket and left the chain gard off so I can clean lube and inspect and havent had fruther problems other than braking the cutter wheel shaft
