Anybody have this unit? How do you like it? Do you recommend? Can you get the sandvik wheel for it? I never owned a walk behind but have some contractors that request I get a walk behind for hard to get at stumps that I cannot grind with the machines I have.

Only used a Vermeer SC130 for one day when my 252 was down a few years ago. Seemed like alot of work for little return, had dull teeth and made finer chips than a tablesaw.

Anyway, I opted for the Alpine Magnum instead of a walk behind for all the hard to reach stuff. No regrets, at 90 lbs it goes anywhere, easy on slopes. I can't imagine trying to manually swing a walk-behind on a slope. Once the word is out you have one the work seems to snowball, it has for me. I haven't gone back and totalled all the invoices on jobs I used it on in the last two years but I'm sure it's at least paid for itself three times over ($4K was original price of machine). That said, it does give you a good workout, so it only gets used when necessary.

I agree with Stumper63! The walk-behinds are NOT useful on much of a slope. I have a self-propelled Rayco Mini-Work Force with a 20hp Kohler and it works extremely well on stumps up to 24" in diameter and on fairly level ground. Any slope over about 15-20 degrees and I walk away! Darn thing will work you to death on a hillside, not to mention the risk of turning it over!

If you get a walk-behind make sure it is self-propelled. Makes moving it a breeze and mine is really fast! Much faster than my friends Carlton 2500-4.

Good Luck!

I have an alpine magnum type grinder, its great at those tough to access jobs but its pretty hard on the operator. The saw head grinders definately have there place, mine has served me very very well. But I am looking at getting a sp2000 or equiv Rayco to do the easier access and bigger stumps.

Any idea of retail on either unit in the USA?
