Looking at late 90's Carlton stump grinder......It's about 4 hours away from my location..... Brian the owner said the hour meter don't work.....all I can tell is from the pictures that it looks fine.....LOL.....said everything works and the motor has been replaced....He bought it new....and the motor was factory replaced.....He said the model was a 2400-D I think.....I've looked high and low for a place to find out what the value of grinder are and have come up empty.

If this machine is in average shape.....What is it worth.....I somewhat compare it to a vemeer 252......An last but not least are Carlton Stump grinders a quality product.......

Any input will be appreciated.....Me and my Nephew are a small on the side...He likes to climb trees and I need the exersize.

Thanks

I do not know anything about that model. however, having owned a Rayco, a Bandit, and now a Carlton, I will say Carlton makes the best stump grinders on the market. I am sure someone else on here will see this post and give you details about that model.

What motor is on it??

Get the serial number and call the factory, I am sure they can tell you the story on that model.

I always find a little patience when purchasing pays off.

The condition of the machine is really more important than the hours. I've seen a lot of "low hour" machines that are beat!!

Rough condition = $2,000 - $3,000
Average condition = $4,000 - $5,000
Very nice = $6,000 and up

This is just my opinion and ymmv.

Dual wheels are VERY important on that size machine. Look for play/slop in the bushings/king pins. Ask to crank it cold. What kind of teeth? Come with trailer?

Those are great little machines. Similar to the Vermeer 252 or the Rayco 1625.
