I am having trouble getting my tracks to extend out. They are not all the way in and not all the way out, just kind of stuck there. They do move so i know the cylinders do work, maybe one more than the other or it is just binding up? I tried shooting wd40 in there to free it up but with no luck...any thoughts?

You may have some wood chips stuck in between the under carriage and the base of the grinder. You should use a lubrication that is dry. When using a wet lubrication your inviting wood chips to stick to them making the problem worse. If your grinder is older than a 2009, I've seen the under carriage arms bend or rip out from the side of the under carriage. Look and see if these arms are bent or ripped out of the side of the under carriage. I would get a floor jack and lift the rear of the machine on one side only and use the cutter wheel to help raise one side. When the track is off of the ground, try retracting and see how far they go in under no pressure.

I hope this helps!

I will look into it and see what i can come up with hopefully it is just a bunch of chips and debris holding it up? If it is not the case what would i be looking at replacing to get this up and running? It's a big deal not being able to get in customers back yards.

Also i was checking out ebay and came across this...

Carlton Stump Grinder New Style Sandvik Rock Tooth P/N 0450134 With Nut | eBay

What is a rock tooth? Maybe that is a stupid question but i havent seen this or heard about it.

One more thing i was thinking about was making a dozer blade to be able to mount on the cutter arm to assist with clean up, push chips around ect. Has anyone done this? Do you have pictures so i can have an idea on how to build and mount it.

Thanks...

You can get an idea on how far out the tracks are...it would be nice to have that option of extending them all the way in and out.

Just check for blockage or bent parts. A rock tooth is designed to help save the cutting teeth if the terrain has a lot of rocks. A hyraulic scrap blade might be able to be installed. I would contact Huey at Carlton 800-243-9335 and ask him. Usually, adding hydraulic components after the fact can get extremely expensive and just not worth it. If you need undercarriage parts, please let me know as I'm very familiar with the under carriage system.

Let me know what I can do to help.

on you tracks. wd40 is not going to cut it. grease or what i use is spray m.c. chain lube. grease is best but messy. some times when mine does hang up,"lack of lube" i use the cutter head to lift up the machine to un bindit.

Hi, I have a 7015 with wheels so I can't help much on the track problem, but I would definatly use greese over WD40. I noticed you have a rebuilt engine. If you don't mind me asking, how many hours did you get out of your original motor?

I bought the machine in January. It came with 120 hours on the rebuilt engine. I believe it was changed out at 700 or so hours if I remember correctly? How can you tell if its a rebuild? Different color?

Yes, different color is a dead give away that someone had to fork over $7500 for a rebuild. I am dreading the day it happens to me. I've got 500 hours on mine. These engines need to be treated like little babies or else it will fail. I change the oil every 50-60 hours with Royal purple HD 15/40 and change the outer air filter every 30 hours. I know this sounds crazy but these engines are very sensative. I wouldn't treat any other piece of equipment I own the same way. Did the previous owner by chance tell you what failed on the original engine?

+1 on the maint. i've got a little over 2100hr's on mine still rockin. oh ya i would change the timing belt at 1000 to1500, mine cut loose at 1600. when that happens include some pushrods.

man that makes me feel a lot better:rock: i was thinking of selling mine to buy the kabota. i just don't have $52,000 laying around...:bang:

I don't think that $52,000 is enough now. Have you checked the current pricing for a 7015 with Kubota, remote, and Sandvic wheel?
I checked recently, and you are going to come up a lot short if you show up with only $52,000 in your pocket.

While i was finishing the last stump on a job yesterday I noticed the machine leaking hydraulic fluid from inside the hood where the battery is located...it was everywhere but still could not find the leak? How do you guys trouble shoot this? I can work on all this stuff but I have no experience with hydraulics...is their any know trouble spots known for leaking in there I should look at closer? Any tips or help would be appreciated, if I can't figure it out I can take it in but I should learn how to fix it myself I'm sure it is a common issue and I'm sure it will happen again. Thanks guys
