Anyone out there have any problems with carpal tunnel syndrome in the wrist? I've had numbness in my left arm on and off for a while and the doctor said more than likely carpal tunnel problem. She suggested flexion and extension exercises. Interested to hear any good exercises or suggestions from anyone.

Keep safe,

Ron

Exercise helps, as does physio in bad cases. Some folks eventually go under the knife to (I think) relieve pressure on the nerve that is causing the problem. Just make sure that is what is causing the problem, I have numbness as well , but it was in the entire arm, which was isolated to nerve damage in my neck from an injury in 1992 likely, of all places. This also could be caused by vibration for eg. from an older saw. There are also anti vibration gloves available out there if this is what is causing the problem, dunno if they work or not.

The carpal tunnel restriction usually gives numbness in the fingers and pain in hand and arm, but there can be pressure on the nerves anywhere from hand to the spinal cord. There are some quite sophisticated tests to pinpoint where the problem really is since the pain can be transferred and is not a good indicator in itself. I had surgery on both wrists with excellent results, but some people have not had good luck. In this case it pays to spend some time checking out the Doctors success rate and make sure he is not using you to practice on.
