Other than mounting a scabbard, how do you guys carry your saws on a tractor?

I jam the saw under the floorboard on the clutch side of my MF 271, it works alright with the big saws, but I ran over a saw 2 months ago going down a steep hill. So not a great idea. My father is able to wedge his saw bar into the loader frame of his Deere 5410, works slick, but all loader frames are different. I would like a scabbard that fits a Rops frame and is easy to mount and dismount.

Wooden box attached to the hood of the tractor with a bungee cord. Can also throw in some wedges and a short handled 2lb sledge with the saw.

I have a steel tool tray on the top of my custom 3pt skidding plate. It fits the saw/gas/oil/wedges/hammer. It's nice too, because everthing is right there when I am standing at the rear of the tractor hooking up skids.

Ratchet strap a cutout milk crate to fender, keep bar pointed away from operator and they will sit in there nicely and be handy for next use.

Stick it in the bucket on the front end loader.

I used to do that. Then one night I forgot and left the saw in the loader. The next morning somebody else used the tractor to feed some cows. My saw wound up in the feed trough and then got rained on. I got my saw back a few days later and had to clean a lot of goo out of it.....

I put mine in the bucket and the next day forgot it was there. Tilted the bucket and almost ran over the saw! A lot of good ideas everyone has had. Right now I set mine on the floor by my feet but it slides around and I don't trust it sitting there. I've been thinking about putting some kind of box on the back of the tractor.

Did the cows eat any of it, they are good at eating undigestable objects. Could see calling the vet to have a chainsaw chain removed.

There have been a few threads like this over the last few years. Some guys have built some pretty cool saw holders for trucks and tractors. I have built a few but i dont have a tractor i use in the woods (I have an antique) so i never mounted them.

Here is the one i made for my truck toolbox. it works ok but i wouldnt want this setup on a tractor (too bumpy a ride)

On the ole Ferguson 35 Deluxe I use a 3 point hitch mounted 55 gallon drum 3/4 full of concrete:smile2: The top holds saws and the extras. Helps a little when dragging too! The Ford 5000 has a wooden box 3 point mounted, but still lifts for getting logs up a bit to pull. Too many dropped saws back in the day inspired both.

I saw that tool box mount elsewhere and Like It!

Smaller tractor has a cat. 1 3pt. hitch with a mount that has an insert like a regular automotive trailer hitch. It usually has a insert with 3 different size balls and a hook, but that is removed and a cargo carrier mounted. Saws, wedges, axes, etc. can be put in that leaving the loader bucket empty and free to use.

This is what I love about this site... yall show me a better way. Thanks.

Inside the Cab !

I would love to be able to stick the saw in a tractor cab. But then I would just be putting branches through the glass. What MF is that? Looks like a mid-80s cab. Which is not a time MF was selling many big tractors.
I don't even know where I could bolt a scabbard too. My MF 271 has a quicke loader which doesn't have big square loader posts. I've done the bucket thing and dumped a saw out as well. Plus then you can't throw wood in the bucket.

My Dad carried his saws in the front end loader on his IH 806 diesel for years. The 038AVS ended up with a cracked clutch cover from falling out one day. I found a replacement cover on eBay a while back. He's now 90 and no longer running saws, but I am going to keep that saw and his 066M running strong for years to come.

Ya got his saws did you keep the 806? Nice all around tractor.
