I have an unusual scenario. I have a 2500 sq. ft. dog kennel that I would like to heat with an OWB, with forced air. We have dogs in there throughout the winter and they have small openings to go outside (r-value zero). But the walls are cinder block with styrofoam inside. I am not going to connect to the DHW tank. Just the one forced air unit.

I figure the 5036 could handle it. But I think I already know the answer from reading the other threads. I should buy the 6048. I would rather use larger logs and I don't want to tend the fire every 4 hours.

I have the 5036 and it does the job for me on our old farm house, the garage and a craft room .. But!! If I were to do it over again, I'd go with the 6048 because of the extra storage of hot water and the fact that I could use longer wood and not fill it as much. When it's real cold out, I'll need to fill my 5036 twice a day and my friend only fills his 6048 once a day. I'll burn oak and he burns ash and junk wood.

My BIL has the 5036 and I have the 6048. Both heat roughly the same square footage as you kennel. His does fine. Granted, we are talking about insulated houses vs your dog kennel. That being said, I have no regrets going with the 6048 even with an insulated house. This year I'll be heating my house and 1800 sqaure foot garage. If I were you, I wouldn't even consider the 5036.

Go big or go home. I have a big Pacific Western and I love it, for me it's better to be too big than too small. I only throw a few logs in at a time. I put some softwood framing lumber in it today and likely won't put wood in it again until next week sometime. My wife throws cardboard and flyers in it which will almost do all our domestic water in the summer but I throw wood in so the ashes are there.
Are you heating it for the dogs or for you? If for the dogs then I think I would consider running insulated water lines and a couple loops under a rubber pad that each dog sleeps on. Or I would run in some ductwork and have a vent at ground level in each cage/pen? Our dogs like cold weather but they love sitting in front of hot blowing air.

I appreciate everyone's input. I had ordered the 5036 because it was cheaper (which may have turned out being more expensive in the long run). Now all I need to do is figure out how to install. - Is the install very hard? I am just running one line to the plenum exchanger.

msmith - what size new holland is that? I have a TC29d.

T4030 same as the TN75 only with the newer 4 cylinder engine.

I had a 5036 in the last house. It was a pretty simple install. If I were you, I would put another line in for a future run while the trench is open so you don't have to dig it up later and add it. You can always plumb in another pump easily if you want to add a zone later.
