Does anyone else carry a cell phone in the tree? I keep mine in a small zipped pouch attached to my saddle . I also carry a small throwline bag with me to hold a bottle of water. If I'm going to be up in the tree for the majority of the day I will also take a couple of aluminum 24oz. Bottles with me attached to a piece of rope that I will hang somewhere close by on a limb. I keep one bottle full of bar oil and the other with fuel.. usually its not necessary but I have used it on occasion.. What does everyone else take up? Any cool tips?

Thanks fellas

Sounds good but where do you carry yer lipstick?

here is one of Reg's videos, this guy definately skilled..

Wow! very smoooooth. Thanks for posting Custom. Between watching these videos and being on this site I have learned so much. In the video the way he had the slings on the big limbs is about what I would have figured to try and keep it level. I can honestly say with the right crane operator and some tips from a very experienced local guy I am ready to
give it a whirl :)

Back to the subject of a phone

Just as a whistle was one of the pieces of required equipment listed years ago, I think the cell phone should be on the list now. It is hard to dial 911 with a whistle if you get in a bind, or see someone you are working with get in trouble. It could take you precious minutes to get down from the tree, offer help and call 911 if you are in the tree and someone below gets hurt. What if you are working with a partner and see him hurt, bleeding or unconscious. When I climb alone, I send a friend a text message to say where I am and when I will be down, if I drop a necessary piece of equipment, get stuck, or need help, I can call. Good luck doing that with a whistle or a scream.

........your old phones........

Just one additional thought, I understand not wanting to take your expensive smart phone up the tree, (saw dust, rain, drop hazard etc) but the benefits and importance of making an emergency call are important.
So, take one of your old phones, an old flip phone (everyone has a stack of these someplace) and put it in your ditty bag next to the whistle.
They will make a 911 call without a subscribed service. Just charge it once in a while and keep it with you, ready to turn on and dial 911 if needed.
