What chain has a 30 on the drive link? I thought it was Oregon, but they don't list a 30. It's 325 .050 gauge and I'm looking to find the correct angles for sharpening it.

thanks,
Ian

It probably is either a Husky H30 or a Jonsered S30 - both are rebadged Oregon 95VP.

Narrow kerf .325 chain - very good on smaller saws, like the 346xp/353 and down to about 40 ccs......

Well... {insert expletive of choice here} I had no idea I was running NK chain. I guess it's not going to run on the standard kerf bar I just bought. Good thing I have some standard chain coming in the next box from Bailey's isn't it..

I learned something tonight. For 4 years I thought I had a 50 gauge bar, never doubted it for a minute. Tonight I googled the Husky part # on the bar I just pitched out and find I've had a 58 gauge bar all this time. I've cut a lot of firewood running the wrong chain. :bang: Wow.. what a revelation. I never bought a single loop of 58 that I know of for the life of the bar. Think I'll go out to the barn and mic the drive links on the chain out there just to see.

Ian

Nope, not a single link of 058 in the house. I don't recall pitching a loop out either, which means that either I lost the one correct loop I had (unlikely) or Alamia sent me the wrong gauge chain from day 1.

Ian

maybe I should have kept this little secret to myself eh..

You would not believe how many people with .058" Huskys end up with .050" chain. Some people complain about the performance of the chain and comment that the chain never did cut properly, and some people look at you like you are stringing them a line and say that it has never given them any problems.

+1 what SawTroll said, the H30 I've seen has Husq.. something on the tie straps but it may not all be like that. YMMV. I've heard third-hand that it'll run fine on non NK laminate .325 bars, just not solids.

Not sure about that but I do know when I mic'd the bar on my new 346XP (which came with H30) and the not-sold-as-an-NK Carlton Timber Champ (actually says 'Tiger' in orange on it, hey it was $10) they were within like .002 thickness or so.

I believe that is true, at least as long as the chain teeth aren't filed too far back - watch out for increased tendensies of binding in the cut, though......;)
