I have a Husky Model 51 Saw, that was in about new condition,
but do to some glitch, the users managed to score the cylinder,
while using the saw. The saw just gradually quit running and then
would not start. I took it into a repair shop and was told that the
cylinder was scored, and that the saw was not repairable due to
the cost of parts being close to the cost of a new saw.

Does anybody know of any soluion to this problem, or could I get
a cost for restoring the saw?

If the cylinder is truly scored, then what you're told is about right. If you need a piston and cylinder, the parts will be around $250, maybe more. Add for labor, and you could buy a nice new 3 cu in saw.

A brand new saw run with straight gas will probably run for about 3/4 of a tank of fuel before seizing. The owners probably saw the bar lube tank and mistook it for the place to add two-cycle oil. Common mistake for people who have no business running saws. It's toasted.
About the only way to salvage anything from the old saw is if you buy a second saw of the same model. Then you have some spare parts.

I have seen a few dead 51s, more than any other and close to tie with 181s. This has been a few years back.

I had a fellow put the 2 cycle oil in the oil tank on a Partner 5000 and expected it to oil inject just like his Yamaha dirt bike. Then he said "You did not tell me I had two put oil two places". This was puzzling because they traded in a saw that had run for years.

Parts saw

Could get another one used and use the one that is broken as a parts saw. Or you could sell the burnt one on ebay as a parts saw and use the money to offset the cost of the new saw.

Good pistons/cylinders can usually be found in saws that were "hit by a tree" (the saw was most likely running when it commited suicide). I have a Jonsered 49SP that is running today because another saw dove under a falling tree. Hold onto your saw, you will find parts if you look hard enough. Go out and get a brand new saw in the meantime.

I cant stop laughing

Every time I go back and read that I start laughing all over again. I have seen some monster excuses for damage done before, but never thought of an appliance committing suicide. Last year my neighbors boat run itself into a dock, he happened to be in the ice chest getting a beer, and claimed the boat turned when he wasnt looking.

I got a chuckle out of that to. To think that a saw would hate it's operator so much that it would dive under a falling tree. Unless maybe it was Mac 6 that was thrown under the tree on purpose.;)
