Why not two first sharpened chains using timed cuts as a measure of sharpness? After the first series of timed cuts, switch sharpening methods on the chains to rule out one chain being simply better.
 
Well Oregon_Rob...If you did the Lh cutters one way & the RH the other...put it in a big log..That should tell you right soon which was the 'sharpest'.. :D
 
I e-mailed Oregon cutting systems regarding our discussion on chain sharpening and here is the reply.

According to our chain engineers, a better surface finish does result in
somewhat faster cutting, but the affect on stay-sharp is probably minimal.
